Hello everyone, last week I came across someone getting rid of 2 dirt bikes. When I found them on line the guy had absolutely zero Idea what they were. I showed up and one was 2000 RM80 and the second was 92 YZ80. I offered him $100 for the pair and the deal was done.

The YZ is in pretty rough shape so I figured while I try to secure parts for that I’d start on the RM.

I always find my self looking at other peoples builds and I figured there’s a lot more like me out there so I figured I’d start this post.

I have made it a good ways into tearing this down, it is amazing to see what people have done over a 20 year period. Just end up shaking my head more and more.

I cannot express how jealous I am of that deal for the RM80. I keep trying to find a good deal on one. It was my first bike and I want to rebuild one for sentimental value lol.

This is without a doubt about reliving childhood dreams. My wife said why do you need more dirtbikes I said because I dreamed about them as a kid and now can have them as an adult!

There is something special with 80cc bikes, I love builds like this. I also have one of my childhood dream bikes, yz80 93.

That RM looks promising. I love these threads too. Maybe we can all help you source parts? More brains involved..

That was a secondary reason for posting. I figured there has to be a lot of knowledge here!!

My brother and I built a track behind our houses we are neighbors. Big bikes 125/250/450s don’t really fit on it it was built more for pit bikes so I’m thinking these 80s will be ideal for it!

So far the only problem I have hit is this bolt being seized and stripped. Trying to figure out how to get it out.

Drill the head with a 6mm til the head comes off. Then you hopefully can get out the rest out of the cylinder with pliers.

Finally got in trouble! “Do these parts really need to be all over the kitchen?!” Also the dough ball whiskey is worth it if you can find it!

Nice work, that's going to be alot of fun to rip around on your track. Just enough power / suspension to keep you feeling young as well.

Welp as I continue I’ve now gotten into where I have no frigan clue what I’m doing. So I’m trying to figure my way around all of it. I was told by the kid I got
It from that it was bored out but how do I tell?!

That cylinder looks pretty junk because it's been sleeved (previously bored and someone installed a cast iron sleeve). Am I correct that these bikes were originally a plated cylinder?
To check the bore diameter (approx.) just size it up with some calipers and compare to spec.

Bore diameter for a 2000 RM80 is 47.5mm
