This is my first bike build, been wanting to do this for a long time now, i came across a 2001 RM250 about two months ago in really rough shape so i decided to tear it apart and start doing things my way.

I replaced the linkage bearings and did a little cleanup ad the linkage was really scratched and ugly

The swingarm was really bad also so i decided to try giving it a little shine as i live in iceland and no used parts available in the country
After much work i think i will be able to use it

How long did it take to get the swingarm looking so nice??

What are the plans for the build?

It took i think about 3-4 hours in total, almost ready !
The plan is to have a really good bike looking like new with small mods like rmz front end and aftermarket engine covers for example.

Rear shock needed a rebuild, changed the shock head and bladder

Gave the shock body a little shine and sent the spring off to powdercoat

New plastics

Another look at the shock installed

Since i will not be using this bike alot i ordered a set of cheap rims from “Pro Wheels” but as you can see in this picture i guess it’s better to spend a little more one time and get a good quality item:
Both boxes are marked with the same colour but this is what you get when you try to save some money on cheap parts haha

So i ordered a set of D.I.D yellow gold rims, they should arrive after one week or so

Do you mind sharing your process of what you did to your swingarm?

I found that the best way was to use an air sander with paper from 120-1200 and finish off with a scotchbrite by hand

Nice work! Did you find it hard to get the circular sanding marks out of the swingarm?

Thanks ! It’s not that hard if you work your way up to 1200 grid or so and finish it with a scotch brite pad

Got some tyres for the new wheels

Still have to figure out the dent in the pipe...

And it needed a new shift lever

And a new brake pedal

I’ve been looking for a set of frame guards to fit this bike but i only see guards for 2004+ bikes, does anyone know if frame guards are available for 2001-3 ? I bought a set from WC for a 2004 RM because i wanted to use the newer brake reservour but that didn’t fit the frame soBlink

One of the reasons i bought this bike was because i bought a new bike and i had to wait for it for 6 months ! To arrive in iceland, was going crazy and needed a bike to ride and didn’t find any RM for sale so i bought a 2001 KX250 and was suprised how nice it rode ! Really great bikes to have

And Ofcourse the same day i bought the KX i found a RM250 for sale so i had to buy it and sold the KX..

Then the container arrived at work !
