7/11/2012 8:24am That is a fantastic gesture thanks. I think we must have walked similar paths as I have raced on favours for years as a kid, then later as a sponsored rider, gave my kit to charitable schools who simply could not afford up to date safety equipment of their own. Now as a virtually retired racer, and keen hobbyist, I...

7/11/2012 8:24am Why does a bike worth just a fist full of coins one day suddenly have to go through the roof the next day. Supply and demand, I guess.
I had an 81 YZ465 sitting in my mothers shed, since 1981, bits were taken from it for other projects, or to save buying replacement parts at the time I was a...

7/11/2012 1:24am Hi Newman,
Thanks, that sounds fantastic, how much would you be willing to part with it for? On a spares list I have they are the same part number for both the 250 and 465 of 1980 and 1981 so let me know the price you want for it, and if we agree, we can liaise privately for me to...

7/10/2012 3:55pm I went on the site, it wont let me register, I tried upper case, lower case, spaced letters, it must be just me!
A guy is selling a whole load of the stuff I need, but I simply cannot afford it. I wanted to see if he would sell a kickstart, if you have a registration, would you ask the...

7/10/2012 2:05pm That is kind of you thanks. I doubt I will ever see it again, I loaned it to a Pal in about 1985, he killed himself in about 1989. I don't know what happened to his bike and feel it inappropriate to ask his father if he kept his late son's bike, then the explaining about the kickstart being mine...

7/10/2012 4:21am Hi Bultokid
Thanks for your suggestion, I tried a 426 item and it was too big on the eye, perhaps a different model though, I can't understand your suggestion 01 IIRC ?
Just for a bit of amusement I was offered a bulto recently as a loan bike to race, all original but needs plenty hours and love

7/10/2012 1:10am I was looking at your triple clamps, I had my clamps vapour blasted, they came out looking great. I added some Renthal Yamaha fat mounts, I had to make the anchor bolts myself to keep the stock cush mounts, overall I found I had the bars in a better position to stock.

7/10/2012 12:58am I had a thought! rare admittedly, but think it is worth sharing as people seem interested, we can share our wisdom of what fits what.
The YZ has had two different kickstarts on which both work.
2010 YZ250F and KTM 450 02-12
Both these are aluminium kickstarts, I snapped the KTM item, possibly as the aluminium hits the footrest in...

7/9/2012 2:48am That's a good idea, thanks. I have a pal with a rocket and a shed full of bits. I rebuilt his Mugen 360 for him, but cant remember the kickstart arrangement, I have a feeling it was a left hand side kicker?. Always worth a look, and I agree with your comment, some parts are just overpriced and every model...

7/9/2012 2:38am We share the 'foggy brain' bit, that's for sure! The cylinder is a 4V4, and the carb is a stock YZ465 is the VM38SS fitted to that bike, or certainly to European issues.
My header pipe is long and slim, purposely designed for torque, you may have hit the nail on the head.
We made the pipe to have...

7/9/2012 2:38am The bike was reputed to blast out 52 BHP, we found different, just 30 at the rear wheel.
Jetting mods, Boyesen Duel Stage Reeds got her up to 39BHP.
Just in the interest of safety, we re-jetted and lost 2 BHP, but found mid-range that would be useful to race with, in other words we have fully usable power...

7/8/2012 11:53am Hi Project racer,
I loved your suggested clip, also respect your statement about the possibility of being 'dead wrong'. I think you are a true expert and politely offer possibility. I agree with your suggestion, but enquire if you feel an open class two stroke has a sanppier power than an open class four banger? I think you are right...

7/8/2012 9:35am Thanks for your comments, yes a 490 kickstart will fit, they had a slightly different bend in the second generation 490 kickstarts, but they still fit if you know of one at a fair price.
If your brother needs any help, just ask, I learnt a lot during this project of suppliers, alternative fitments etc. Ask him to send a...

7/8/2012 9:26am This is great, and thanks for actually looking and sharing opinions, it is only chatting and that helps us to make progress, no matter how good any of us are, we are all better together, so thanks for your input.
The climb is rapid, and I had thought of that, I didn't think we had a slipping clutch, and without...

7/2/2012 2:11am Hi Mikeyam, your probably right, without looking back I do remember something on those lines. My addition was just about a shifter that was a bit longer than the stock item and fit straight on. The failing DD suffered was likely due to the mechanism rather than the lever. In 82 Yam went to a four speed box in the...
