RM400Pinger Started a new thread '89 KX125

I recently purchased this '89 KX125 and plan to soon begin the tear down. Are there any known issues that I should be on the lookout for during the process? Also, does anyone know of any upside-down forks from another bike that would be a fairly simple swap? Thanks!

Thanks for all the great info, Vino! Why do you recommend to not go with the Gold Valve from RaceTech?

Thanks for the parts, Steve! I rode the bike for the first time off road yesterday, and it runs great but the rear shock is absolutely horrible and makes for a scary ride. I'll be sending it to RaceTech to get rebuilt...the bike is a ton of fun though!

I finished the bike this weekend, just need to decide on decals/graphics since the originals are no longer available. The bike runs and rides great, now I just need to get it dirty!

Rik lives in the same town as me and from what I can tell, really loves the sport. I have seen him race the Ironman GNCC, Endurocross and he is into the vintage scene as well. I've also seen him at the Indy Dealer Show and the local Ace hardware store, too lol.

Thanks for the info. I have seen that pic but couldn't figure out why that bike had the upside-down forks and every other pic has had the conventional ones. Makes sense that it was from overseas. It'd be cool to find a set but probably next to impossible here in the states... I've sent the frame and subframe to the...

Thanks for the replies. Are there any aftermarket foot pegs available for this bike? I have looked and all I am finding are ones for the '89 KX500 which appear to mount differently. Also, does anyone make a graphics kit for it besides the facftory. The OEM ones are super expensive. Thanks again!

Thanks for the info! I have ridden the bike but it was just to try it out so I couldn't really tell how good they were. I will just leave them on there then. Thanks again!

Hey everyone, I just found this site while researching the '86 CR250s since I am looking at buying one. I wouldn't pass up on an old RM400 just because of piston issues...they are out there. When i was restoring my RM400, I found two .50mm pistons on ebay. There is another one on there right now and I believe you...
