NialOx Added a reply to 2018 RMZ 450 Technical Help Hard to Start
3/9/2022 12:40am Update. Tore into the bike. Exhaust valves are in spec but only just. 0.15 and 0.17 Intake valves are one in just and one way out. 0.11 and the other is less than 0.05 as that's the smallest gauge I have. Good news is the shims installed still have some meat to them at 2.7/2.75 exhaust and 2.3/2.35 intake. I've...

3/8/2022 3:19am You might be right then. I'm a pretty big guy. And although I've never found a bike hard to kick I have to say when warm it did feel especially easy.

3/8/2022 3:17am You can feel the loss of compression when the valves start to move. You could try cleaning the fuel filter/sock in the fuel tank. I would check the valve clearance just to be sure.

3/8/2022 2:03am .004-.006 intake and .007-.009. I have a 20 RMZ, my valves went at around 60 hours and would be hard to start cold. I would sometimes have to use the choke to get it started once it was warm.

3/8/2022 12:25am Hello all, I've got a 2018 RMZ450. It's on about 55hrs with a top and bottom engine rebuild at 30hr. Cold it starts great and runs great when warm. However after the bike has warmed up it's nearly impossible to start again, I always eventually get it going without a bump start but we are talking 20-30 kicks. Does anyone...

NialOx Added a comment about news story Hunter Lawrence Joins the Red Bull Family
10/4/2021 4:32am So hunter, Jett, Roczen etc are red bull athletes with their own deal. Riders who ride for KTM are KTM athletes on a red bull sponsored team, i.e. if they leave the team they will most likely loose their redbull sponsorship too as they don't have individual redbull deals.

7/13/2021 2:00am 08-09 crf250 (carbed) 2006 + yz250f I'd say yamaha has slightly less expensive parts than honda but honda usually has more parts in stock and still currently available.

7/6/2021 12:33am Funnily enough I had been looking at the 12/13 YX250F as a potential bike. I can't seem to find any in the UK for sale though!

7/5/2021 3:51am Then I’d say 11-13 crf250 Our 13 was bulletproof and easy to mod for a bit more power and stay reliable . We sold ours with 100 hours . Still had stock valves in good shape, only replaced piston a couple times .

7/5/2021 12:28am Thanks for the info. I don't think I'd go that old on the 250f anyway. Just out for info that makes rebuilds and parts availability harder. Common issues with models like soft valve seats etc. I may well go for a honda.

7/4/2021 2:52pm I’ve owned multiples of the earlier model 4 strokes and the ones to avoid are 2004-2006 RMZ250, 2004-2005 Kx250f Any other Japanese 4 strokes to current are decent bikes The earliest crf250s are very good and easy to rebuild with plenty of parts availability . I currently have a 2004 yz250f I’m rebuilding the motor on . The newer 250s do have more power but it’s not earth shattering so any older one is not a “ bad” choice.

7/4/2021 11:12am Hello all. Currently have and ride a really clean 2006 rm125. I ride mostly sand which is fine in the summer but come winter the 125 does start to struggle. With them becoming rarer in good condition I am looking to get another bike as a winter bike / daily driver type thing. I’m looking at a four stroke to...

NialOx Started a new thread Shavings in Gearbox Oil. Help!!
6/9/2021 7:14am Hi Everyone. Went to do a refresh of my new to me RM125. I’ve done an hour or two on it and it was running and riding great. Clutch and gearbox working well. I’ve just gone to change the oil and it’s got a ton of shavings in it. I don’t think they are magnetic but I can’t tell for...

6/9/2021 5:51am You can use a copper penny to jam the gear between clutch basket gear, get service manual for proper gear placement & torque specs.... Gear should line up with basket gear....

6/9/2021 5:18am Cheers man. I’m sort of in the mind that if I can get the next few weekends out the way I’ll crack on and just re-do the engine. I’m just wary of the gearbox pulling up loads of shite as I know they are a weak point. Do you know how you torque the primary bolt without spinning the engine...

6/9/2021 5:15am The threads in the crank half end will need to be chased by a quality tap, no Chinese metal! Get a new crank bolt. If you can save the crank threads, use Red loc tite when installing the new bolt, torque to proper specs. I would disassemble and clean the clutch and shifter star assy. To remove as much of the shavings as possible. Reassemble and start bike, keep changing oil until shavings are gone. Usually the bolt backs out & rubs on the inner clutch cover. Should probably spin all the bearings to see if they are damaged from...
