I'd rather hope for the best than the alternative for any employer even considering their significant shortcomings.

Major financial distress may be an overstatement. Certainly struggling and down year over year and trying to recover. Some great folks there, so I hope it works out. It appears to have been taken over by a leader with little to contribute to the vision of the future.
