Great stuff....and here's a few from my early days in Northern Ohio..... First is my mono-shock XR75 from Grand Prix Intl. Raceway (b&w); second is my Miller Mano Afterburner pipe-equipped YZ100 C from the old Mid-Ohio track in Lexington; next is a shot of me on my '77 YZ125D at Ohio International Raceway in Ravenna, OH; and last are two...

8/22/2015 10:03am
Hi Folks As motorcycle enthusiasts, and especially off-road fans, I wanted to let all of you know that Malcolm Smith's new autobiography, titled Malcolm! The Autobiography, is now available. Books will arrive at Malcolm's shop at the end of next week (they are in port now), and pre-ordered books will then be singed by Malcolm and mailed asap. Some of...

Hey, everyone... I'll try to answer all the questions here. Books are in port and will be delivered to Malcolm's shop at the end of next week. Which means, if you pre-ordered a book online, you'll be the first to get your book, probably the week after that, as Malcolm will sign and ship those first. A note about signatures...

mitchell184 Started a new thread Motorcyclist Retro magazine, not dead...

1/20/2012 4:36am
Hey retro fans It's true. Motorcyclist Retro, the book I started with Source Interlink earlier this year ('08), has been put on ice by the publisher. Economy. Funny thing is, it was doing well, selling almost 25K copies of issue one. (Issue three on on stands now, btw. In it is a great feature on the first Carlsbad USGP, Honda's...

mitchell184 Added a reply to JT MX Gear

11/3/2010 6:53am
Guys I'm coming into this thread late, but I have a couple of questions. I'm doing an in-depth feature story on JT, John and Rita, and the 'new' JT Racing, info about which will surface over the weekend of November 19/20 at the AMA HOF Induction dinner in Vegas. Let's just say it'll be HUGELY interesting for anyone who loved...

mitchell184 Added a reply to Noguchi

8/12/2010 7:47am
Guys, all great info on Noguchi and Shinobi - cool names from the past. Anyone remember a kid from Ohio named Willi (or Willy) Pertz? In '74 or '75, he had a couple of Gene McKay's YZ80s, and they were SO fast. He was a tiny kid and didn't ride mx all that well, but he was hell on the...

mitchell184 Added a reply to Moto Retro Illustrated magazine

12/29/2009 8:46pm
It will. We only start with issue two when folks ask for it. Issue two is a bit late, mostly cause I busted myself up racing motocross a while back. Broken collarbone, ribs, punctured and collapsed lung, bad concussion, etc. Ugly. But I'm back in action, and issue two is about done and ready to go to the printer. The...

Thanks for the pump! For those of you who don't know about Moto Retro Illustrated, check out our website at motoretroillustrated.com. Issue one features a ton of Old School mx, including a feature on the '75 Unadilla Trans-AMA, Yamaha's first monoshock motocrosser, Hodaka's Super Rat, Team Honda from 1973, Jeff Ward and his '76 XR75, a short feature on Darryl...

mitchell184 Added a reply to XR75 help needed ??

11/5/2009 10:34pm
Try XRMiniracer.com. Alex Judd knows them inside and out, and had plenty of parts, including manifolds, carbs, replica pipes from DG and JWRP and PK, all of it. He's a master XR guy, and is helpful.

mitchell184 Added a reply to Ohio & Michigan Riders

8/28/2009 8:17am
More fast guys from Ohio: Jerry Sales, Jon Leak, Harold Robison (already listed), Rick Buttle, Tim Brodie, Phil Hawkins (minis). I remember racing against Billy Paxton in the mini class a couple times. I had a lightly modded XR75, which I thought was fast. But his bike threw roost 15 feet in the air...had to be a 115cc Powroll engine...

11/1/2008 12:06am
Hi Terry Unfortunately, issue one is gone. Our publisher wasn't confident this magazine had any legs (even though we all know there are many, many thousands of guys and gals who would love a monthly magazine like this, and would be willing to pay for it), so they didn't print any extras, which they normally do for just this purpose...

Thanks for the kind words, guys and gals. And for the support of the magazine. It helps more than you know. Motorcyclist Retro is a bit of a personal mission of mine, a dirt and street magazine that focuses on the glory days of motorcycling - 1965 to about '85 - and which focuses primarily on Japanese machinery and culture...
