Just to play devil's advocate, where was the due diligence from the partner and his lawyer? Before putting any funds down or committing to being in a partnership, surely you would verify that the other party indeed has the funds or has the means to obtain them?

A scam is when someone goes into the deal knowing they aren't going to come up with their end and it normally ends up with the scammer coming out financially better. It's hard to believe AJ did all the videos and marketing knowing full well that he would never be able to fulfill his part of the deal. He also doesn't appear to have made any financial gain from the deal going sour.
