Find a used Econoline 350 or Chevy Express 3500. 1 ton vans with big engines, 8 lug HD axles, thick frames, stiff suspension, big brakes. Long wheelbase and a high GVW will help keep your trailer stable. The Fords have 5.4's (can be reliable or horrible, a bit under-powered), 6.8 V10 (reliable but thirsty), or a 6.0 diesel (great once bulletproofed- look it up). Chevy / GMC have 6.0 (99 / 2000 were low-power versions), or 6.6 diesel (research thoroughly, different years had different problems, keep a close eye on the trans).
