Hitch bike mounts....reliable?

I've had a couple, and have used them exclusively for transport over the past 5 years. I got one from eTrailer.com that was great, and the one I am using now is a Harbor Freight job, which is less solid but still worth the $30 I paid for it.

Hopefully you have or will get at least class 3.5 hitch w/2" receiver. I tow only a 192lb 125, you have to keep an eye to keep bolts tight, etc., but otherwise it works great with no problems. Make sure the one you get has a good "collar" or other system for stabilizing the unit against your receiver, otherwise it will move all over the place and probably put damaging stress on the unit and your receiver.

I love being able to get to the track in my wife's 30mpg Honda. Some people have mentioned that the fact that it covers your license plate may be frowned upon by the law, but I have never had a problem.

I made my own.. We took a 4 in drop hitch, and then a 4 inch steel u-channel. Bent the front up to hole the front wheel. Welded a couple chain links on there for the straps. Then took a 2 X 2 square tubing and went up from the top of the hitch, about 36 inches for support. Works very well.

I have one I bought at cabela's
it looked good, but once I got it together, I found out its weakness's
first, the rear tire wouldn't fit in the channel, had to buy some steel stock, and modify the channel
then , its 2 inch tube is smaller than 2 inches, a bunch, so the thing wobbles from side to side and up and down like crazy
I fixed that by making a collar to snug the up and down, and then a ratchet strap on both sides to my truck to take the left/right wiggle out

and I even did some weld to the channel trying to get a tighter fit

but all in all, it still move's a bit, the bike ain't going any where, but it does freak you out seeing it move about as you drive!!

and I am sure its got to be rattling some bolts loose on the bike

they work, but a trailer is so much better on everything, and a must if its going to be a long ride!

hahaha. This is no bullshit. I was kind of in a bind to get my bike back to Montana from Texas last fall, so I had someone make me a 2 inch receiver hitch and I bought an aluminum bike rack, and drove it all the way back from Texas on the back of My HONDA ACCORD! haha

I have the rider cargo hitch hauler and I like this one a lot. It has tabs where you can strap the bike to the hauler really secure, and it’s not to expensive. This is where I got it from
