I personnaly think this is mikes year. He does average in the supercross class and then on some of the rougher supercross tracks he does good. Then in the outdoors he checks out after the first lap i thin this year hes gonna win the outdoors and switch to a 450
Anyone dissagree?

I think a certain Ryan Dungey might have something to say about that. My opinion, Dungey will be out to prove a point. One thing, Mike will get most of the holeshots. That bike is a rocket. 350 or 450. Yea, yea I know. 450 outdoors. He really should ride the 350 to give everyone else a small chance to stay with him until the first turn.

He will show some signs of life outside. I don't know about a championship though.

Ryan dungey?? Noo he sucks. He was only good last year cause bubba was out reed was sandbagging every race and villipoto had a snapped tib/fib. Dungey will never again be champ. Hes got top 3 like 2 times this supercross season? Soo ya dungey shouldnt even be considered

I disagree.
800 is a great racer. Not just good, but great.
But I've personally watched Villopoto ride away from him on multiple occasions.

I agree as long as he get back to his holeshot dominance. On a 450 I think he will finish 3rd or 4th in points. On a 350 6th or 7th in points.

i think we should identify who the contenders are first.....

dungey.....yep
stewart.....yep (if he races)
villo...........of course

reed? would he still be a member of the elite group outdoors? im not sold. but with what hes done this year, anybody who counts reed out is a fool. but more importantly, will he find the sponsorship?

canard? he's without a doubt proven to be elite this sx season, will that translate to the outdoors? i would think so.

then there is pourcel (if a deal is put together)........

and the topic of this thread, Alessi. if he finds the 09 form, he has to be elevated to the elite group.

it could be as small as a "BIG 3" or as big as a "SUPER 7".......a lot has to happen no matter what it ends up.

(a healthy and competitive weimer would make it an "elite 8") i think once you hit around 7 actual legitimate championship contenders....your closing in on rare territory in motorsports. i dont know of another sport or year where its reached that high.

Stewart was scheduled to only race sx in 2010. Dungey was clearly the fastest outdoor mx rider last year and just like supercross this should be one of the best outdoor series in a long time. RV and Bubba can run Dungey's pace and I'm sure Canard and Pourcel will be up there too. Can Alessi on a 450f run up with the top pack in 2011? I think he has the speed to pull off some nice results but there are already 5 riders who have proven speed in both sx and mx and I haven't even included Reed or Grant. Would love to see Windham back out there too. Alessi had a shot at the MX championship. Dungey won it.

Nope.

I think that the top 5 outdoors will be

Stewart(if he races)
Villopoto
Dungey
Canard
Reed

The reason i put Reed last is because he only won 5 races in 2009 and Dungey won 10 in 2010, and it was against pretty much the same people both seasons.

Hmmmm,from the results i'm looking at Dungey has finished top 3 10 times out of the 13 races so far and the other 3 races he took a 4th,a 5th and the 20th from broken chain.......come to think of it you are surely joking.Wink
Dungey 2011 SX.
1st's = 1.
2nd's= 4.
3rd's = 5.
4th's = 1.
5th's = 1.
20th = 1.

I personally think dungey and weimer should not be considered. Weimer will deffinatly not stay for long. Hes always gonna roumd out the top 10 and halfway thru the season hes gonna dnf and brake something and not finish the season and dungey has potential only if reed windham villopoto stewart canard alessi and grant dont race as hard as they can

Reed cant hold a candle to Alessi outdoors. He may beat him a moto here and a moto there but over a season he wont be close. When Mikey is on, there isnt many people that can hang with him outdoors.

Can Mike win ? = Yes I think he's battling a few issues (no I don't know what they are) I think he has the Speed, Talent, Fitness and work ethic to be a Champion.

Just has to have everything click in line for him and several other guy's have the same ,Talent, Fitness and work ethic to be a Champion and have already got it done so Mike has his hands full.

i think everyone her has forgotten one person, that person being metcalfe he is on a equally as good if not better bike than last year and he was the only one besides desalle to come close to beating dungey, if only he didnt run out of fuel, i think metcalfe will be the spoiler outdoors and suprise a lot of people as he did last year

One bad year and everyone says he's done.

Would I bet money on it that Mike wins the championship? Nope.

I really hope he wins it though. I'd rather see him win it over anyone else out there.

I see Chad being up front more than people think, but I see RV2 stating his dominance and taking control. Dungey will be fast for sure. We can't count out Trey, the guy has stepped up to that elite level and he will be contending for wins. But Alessi? With his current program, I can't see him straight up beating Villopoto. Maybe if he tweaked his program and got back on the big bike, but I dont know.
