Do you use grease around the ring of the filter?
Like all bikes prior to this one you grease iT! The system is all new to me and I have a race, this up coming weekend and am wondering if it necessary to grease the ring on the outside edge of the flat filter? Thanks need info a.s.a.p.

i don't the way it seals to the metal ring often I have to pull the filter off!

Its wise to put a little grease around it. For sure when you ride n the sand.

I don't grease it, but I do oil the crap out of where the seal is made.

did you get an owners manual with the bike ? what does it say ?

the way I look at it if the grease seal has 1 grain of sand on it or more then the grease did it's job.

Yeah we ride a lot of places where there is fine dust and sand so I always use a little around the edge of the filter.
What can it hurt?

A light amount will not hurt. Just don't get carried away to the point that some grease might get sucked down the intake tract.

I never ever have greased the ring of a filter. No need to. Just a mess and more work. Unless your going to do some gnarly sand Riding I wouldn't suggest it. Especially the yam 450 doesn't get much dirt in the front unlike other bikes with the filter under the seat. But do what you feel is best.

Ive always used Belray filter oil with Silkolene grease around the brim of it...just a thin layer
