I'm glad there was no mention of it on CBS. No matter how you feel about what Bubbles did...it just doesn't do the sport any good to wash ALL yer dirty laundry in public. Everybody who follows the sport has some version of what James did...the casual fan (golden goose) thanks to a lack of coverage doesn't have a clue. Love him or hate him...Stewart is kind of a big deal in SX.

He already admitted that he did it. He is guilty. From what I hear, now he is trying to say they were late for the airport and they were doing it to get there faster (which sounds stupid, but plausible to me). His only hope is to plead "dumbass" and get it dropped from a felony to a misdemeanor. Trying to "pull over" two off-duty cops...classic!

I see your point...it just seems there is a double standard.

A NFL/MLB/NBA player gets a DUI or beats up his wife or whatever and it is major news and is shouted from the mountain tops! Sometimes the team or even league suspends them for a game or so to not tarnish the team's or league's precious image.

To pretend something didn't happen to protect your image just doesn't seem to be the way to go for me.

You are correct. But it's kind of a perspective thing. Stick and ball (big money) sports have far more reporters trying to make a buck/name for themselves by reporting every single misstep by the players. Our sport isn't that "big story" for those types. And as unfair as it seems...Bubba DOES put butts in the seats. I hate double standards as much as anyone but one of the perks of being one of the elite is a wider latitude for ignorance.

I dont really care who it is but its all marketing geared towards the masses. Stewart has that appeal over some of the others, right or wrong. And that 20 minute stewart promo is exactly why you didnt get the mention of his arrest over the broadcast.

Let's get this straight...in a perfect world every rider on the gate would get the same consideration from the AMA, promotors, networks, fans. But as @ss hurt as we get about it....there will always be those who get special dispensation because of who they are or what they've accomplished. It has always been this way and unless someone has the ability to make all humans think alike then it will continue to "be this way". The only way to overcome these barriers is to just go out and whip their @ss on the track. It's a tradition...not easy...but just a fact of life. Maybe because of my age or whatever...I kinda like it this way now. Makes a victory by someone like Tommy Hahn or Beefy Matt even more savory.

Does anyone have any figures as to attendance last year without Bubba compoared to this year with? How about ratings numbers? He may garner more attention on ESPN.com and when he gets in trouble, but he is hardly keeping the sport afloat.

My problem is more with the MX media in general. If this story wasn't picked up by national media we may never have heard about it as even with links to credible news websites complete with video, some were still putting it off as April Fools. James is without a doubt the most famous MXer racing today. The problem is that the MX media all are friends with the riders and are more apt to defend them and hide knowledge than share it with the MX fans.

How Larry Brooks can be gone from L&M (actually L&M is gone too) and the MX media just does nothing as far as getting the story is beyond comprehension. That would be the equivalent of an NFL team showing up on Sunday without the head coach and refusing to comment on it even as he is gone for the remainder of the year. Obviously Larry is under a gag order on this subject. But "family time" shows just how stupid James thinks ALL of us are. No one wants to pry because then James will shut them out of the loop. This isn't focused on James alone, as all the teams will similarly give people the cold shoulder if they pry too much.
