What changes have been positive and what have been negative?

Like: More racing, more better

  • SMX Next and WMX being included
  • The occasional triple crown
  • The concept of SMX
  • Every moment bring broadcast on Peacock

Dislike: Sloppy execution

  • TV production is abysmal
  • SX tracks have gotten boring and that's hampered SMX excitement
  • Grates/holeshot devices/scoops/start maps make starts less variable
  • Combine the starting situation with the track layouts and you get a lot of boring, 1-lined racing with minimal passing

SMX futures/ combines and what ever you call it that get the kids out and do some real racing and display how stupid the whole Loretta’s thing is.

WSX, the girls deserve the spotlight, and the next thing is to give them some decent length motos.

Otherwise I feel that the sport has pretty much stood still for the past 10-15 years now.

Hunter Lawrence flaming away against the lame SMX.

Dislike:

WAIT A MINUTE! Weege… for a series that host the best national series in the world with some of the fastest riders in the world, it’s horrible how bad the announcers is. Weege is acting surprised about everything that happens in front of his eyes and JS are just there making up imaginary words and long winded explanations that he often needs to backpadle from.

The stadiums. People are talking about laptimes but with the modern four strokes and current talent pool, it is what it is with the current venues. Going to other stadiums like LA colosseum where you can go outside to gain some track length would help to compensate for the faster bikes that has outgrown the regular stadiums.

SMX I’m so sick of hearing about the imaginary world championship the whole winter and summer from Weege and JT that when it’s actually time for it, I’m already over it as much as Hunter Lawrence.

National tracks nothing against the tracks it self (apart from pala) but it would be nice to see some new tracks on the calendar.

SMX points system…

Positives:

-More access to the inner workings of the sport through social media, digital access, youtube, etc

-multiple podcasts now instead of just pulpmx (still listen, dont freak Matthes!)

-Better R&D of the aftermarket companies to be able to respond and put out products quicker for newer bikes.

-Peacock is a gamechanger for watching live, and watching past races. Hate the price increases, wish there was a SX only option for peacock. I genuinely DGAS about the rest of their content and features.

-Rider and fan interaction and accessibility is better than its ever been. My little kids love being able to say hi to the riders at races and the racers are way friendlier than 90's/00's.

-SX events are more polished, organized, streamlined. This is good, and bad. The good part is the predictability and consistency.  More on the bad later.

Negatives:

-FIM/AMA has done so much damage to the sport, its reputation, and the legitimacy of the sport. The suspensions of Bubba and Broc Tickle were just wrong. It hurt the sport, and it still does. The insane arbitrary rules and enforcement is a joke. Our sport looks like a clown show. Its as bad as the NBA/NFL officiating now. Riders cant focus on riding because they're so worried about losing points, positions, financial penalties.

-Neutering of the sport. WAY too many red flags. A red flag used to have real meaning behind it. I get that rider safety should be a top priority but the scaled increase of them and the effect it has on races is crazy. it benefits some riders, and hurts others. The other part of neutering is not letting the guys RACE. Banging bars, taking each other out, showing a wheel, and block passing IS A PART OF THE SPORT! Quit arm chair quarterbacking the racing by keeping the constant threat of penalties over the guys heads and keeping the fans from seeing REAL RACING. Does anyone up top actually realize our sport is the only form of racing where full contact is expected and encouraged? Its a MAN's sport! Let the boys race!

-The structure of the supercross events is more polished & streamlined. The bad is it is way over manufactured and so overly structured that its become less about being unique and more ''TV Friendly". Meaning its becoming less about the actual racing and more about creating openings in the broadcast for non racing crap to be broadcast and talked about.

-Elimination of tits and ass. Yup. I DGAF. We need miss supercross back. We need beautiful monster girls back. 2010-2015 was freaking EPIC. Great racing, and EVERYONE knew the monster girls names! Miss supercross talked on TV! it was fun! When DD retired and Julianna Daniels took over it went downhill. That was cool, fun, and an added element EVERYONE enjoyed! 10 years later people still want it. I miss the lucas oil girls too (Nicole D'Cesa and Carrie Bolling) Bring it back, stop being so corporate.

-Every rider on the podium sounds like a robot. We know you have to plug the sponsers. There's an epic race, huge battle, and the interview is "id like to thank taco bell/KFC/Pepsi/Depends/Tylenol/metamucil/Camel lights. thank you see you soon!" Guys come on, go watch the 90's and 80's interviews. They actually talked about the race. Quit saying "we got up on the podium" Who is we? We who?? Your social media manager wasnt out there shifting up in the whoops MF'er!

Would you like a useless doctor to perform surgery on you just because he is excited to be at work?.

I don’t care how excited clueless Weege is or how many titles JS has, or how good he was on a bike. Just like RC, just because you got plenty of wins, it doesn’t automatically translate to doing a good job in the booth.

Both Bailey and Emig were way better at that work than the current riders they put there.

It's commentary, I'd much rather listen to someone excited than someone boring that reads statistics while there's a race going on.

Negative:

  • Similar tracks with not much creativity
  • The SMX tracks, triple points
  • Injuries
  • Not enough off-weeks in supercross/supercross running too long
  • No more straight rhythm
  • Start lights, start maps, start devices, grates
  • Ticket prices
  • Event start times; the West Coast should never have to watch an opening ceremonies in daylight
  • Autograph sessions only being 25-40 minutes; I get they are there to race, but fans are there 8 hours or so, and only interact with the riders for 25-40 minutes; make autograph sessions longer.
  • Friese, Mitchell Harrison
  • SMX making it an issue for MXON participation
  • The schedule not being planned out so that it's easier on truck drivers, so they don't have to drive cross-country to get to another round.
  • One less MX race
  • Loretta’s, Mini O’s, GNCC going behind a paywall
  • The price of the shirts/sweatshirts from Moto Tees
  • The people who decide to fight/even piss, in the stands
  • All of the AI posters
  • Betting/gambling/prop markets
  • The proposed media/journalist rule changes
  • Leigh and RC in the booth(there are rumors 27 will be Ricky's last year; I wonder who takes his place and how everything else shakes up)

Positive:

  • Futures/SMX Next
  • WMX’s rise
  • All of the OEM’s
  • The variety of riders
  • Riders going longer into their career
  • The SMX payout
  • All of the MXGP men and even ladies coming here to race
  • All of the riders that have YouTube and social media to promote the sport/show stuff that’s not shown a lot
  • The moto community often feels like a big family
  • All of the personalities from the riders, good and bad

Positive:

Peacock, being able to watch practice, and live racing.

SMX Next, it's fun to see up and coming talent

WSX, This helps the industry as a whole, and the racing has been fairly good.

Seeing factory support growing to the smaller teams

Negative:

Leigh Diffey and RC for SX announcing

Screech AKA Will Christien. Thank God for mute buttons

Please take Pala off the calendar and bring back Glen Helen

Start grates

More tracks need to be hard pack to make the riders slip and slide around more, make the riders use throttle control and a clutch

Stopping ripping the tracks so deep, ruts are cool sometimes, but not at every track. We need more hard pack dirt

We need more whoops. Separate the riders with more whoops, and get rid of the 9 whoops, AKA the Webb whoops so he can't jump them 3x3x3

SMX. Drop SX races before MX, and make the SMX a true hybrid track or don't do them at all. Hunter hit the nail on the head!

Riders are getting dock points for course cutting etc. Why are riders not getting docked for ignoring the blue flags while getting lapped? Make the lappers more accountable for getting in the way of the leaders.

Not to be THAT GUY but positive and negative for who??? We have so many different interests (Promoter, Broadcaster, OEMs, Industry Sponsors, Outside Sponsors, Fans, Factory Racers, Privateer Racers, Teams) - at least 9 different groups who all have different challenges and want something different out of the races. Until we can better align all of those interests, it will just be a pendulum swinging back and forth. I know you can't make everyone happy, but at least agree on what is helpful for most groups.

For example - most people agree the bikes are too fast and have become dangerous. so do we reduce the displacement? Sure, but you just made it harder for every privateer rider and team to be competitive because the smaller the displacement, the more the bike becomes the limiting factor. That means a bigger gap between the 1st and 20th place lap times, and more lappers ---- less safe.

So ---- what changes have been positive and negative? I'll list the ones that are pretty universally good or bad.

  • Bad - Cookie cutter tracks - no dragon's backs, fewer out-of-the-box obstacles, 9 whoops (WTF?) - theoretically safer but end up being so fast that when a rider does make a mistake, it's a big one.
  • Bad - Starting grates, staring blocks, and holeshot devices - get rid of them all. Create separation in the first 10 feet. This may make racing even more start-dependent but it will be safer and create more exciting racing.
  • Bad - Longer season - only good in the short-term for promoter, broadcaster and sponsors, but bad long-term for the longevity of our best racers which ultimately is bad for those same groups. 15 SX, 10 MX, 3 SMX and that's it.
  • Good - SMX Next - great stepping-stone series into the Pros and more chances to race at the highest level. The only negative is I think the tracks have been watered down a bit since SMX-N began, which goes back to my first point.
  • Good - The broadcast has been excellent. Live coverage of practice and the entire show for SX & MX! I remember having to watch re-runs on ESPN 2 at 2AM because that's the only time it was on.
  • Good - WMX with some seriously bad-ass ladies racing, and a prominent spot on Saturdays for their second moto is a great step in the right direction.
  • Good - The sound rule. I hated it at first but they're right, it's better for the sport long-term.
  • Good - More factory teams than ever before
  • Good - Timed race format is much better than going by laps. Even the by-product of the tracks breaking down more has been good for racing as it's the only time in the entire day that the track is challenging to them.
  • Bad - Racing is getting way too damn expensive, so more companies going after fewer and fewer wallets that can handle it. This goes from the pro level all the way to local racing.
  • Good - Access - we've never had it this good before. Between social media, rider's vlogs, podcasts and journalist vlogs, we've never had so much moto content and behind-the-scenes access. Hopefully (hint hint Feld) nobody screws this up.
  • Good - efforts like USMCA are great - anything that helps make it easier for people to get into the sport benefits everyone
  • The Worst - No KDUB opening ceremony. Opening ceremonies have completely lost their luster now that it's in the daytime and riders just ride around the outside. They should just let Bereman and Hodges be a part of opening ceremonies to hype up the crowd.

For each user of the forum individually… wtf
