If I'm traveling and rent a bike, how do I get it to a track/riding area?

The renter puts down a damage deposit- pictures and video are taken before each rental if there is any damage the cost of parts and labor are deducted from the deposit- the host has the option to offer delivery for an additional fee

On the other side, it would actually be cool if this was a thing. I'd love to hop on a plane and jet somewhere warm to spin laps for a weekend in January and February without having to load up and make a 16hr one way trip somewhere...

It is a thing and we have a lot of hosts signed up already renting there bikes -

Do you know of any offroad and enduro forums as big as vital?

I ran a few numbers on my last bike such as the amount paid and what it sold for.  Once I factored in top end, timing chain, tires, chain/sprockets, suspension rebuilds, oil changes and any ancillary costs like graphics or replacement plastics. At 80 hours on a 250F costs over close to if not more than $100 per hour just to operate.   So you would have to charge a ton to be profitable.  Albeit the maintenance on certain things would be not quite be the same.  I can imagine 100 hour suspension service intervals, etc.

Bought bike for 9200 OTD. Sold for $4800.

So we are starting with depreciation of $55 per hour on an 80 hour bike.  From there I factored in 1 top end rebuild, 2 sets of chains, sprockets abs tires, 20 oil changed some small things like air filter cleaner and oil.

Yeah I started adding it up again and that seems high.  I must break a lot of shit and was including gas + track fee.

With my rentals I do a quick walk around video, then they leave a deposit, I get a copy of their license, and they sign a contract that they are responsible for damage, and its $50/day.  I haven't had any major issues, yes people have dropped the bikes, I have had people abandon them, and then do minor damage, but as long as I have their deposit I dont really care.

Here is my list

$4400 depreciation

$1000 2x Tires, chain and Sprockets

$400 2x suspension

$500 top end

$350 new fork tube (damaged and leaking from RedBud)

$250 left radiator (crash)

$250 oil

Not including gas or anything like new plastics or graphics my operation cost from that alone is $89.xx

Edit: I am not a mechanic so I pay people to do suspension and motor work.

Seems like a good deal, I like how its set up by destinations and focused mostly on trail riding, because a lot of people do like to go to places like Moab and ride.  If I lived near a place like that I would totally rent dirt bikes for that.

You haven't addressed the comments regarding liability?    Who/what is providing insurance?   How does the bike owner protect themselves from being sued for every dime they have when a renter breaks their neck or the bike injures some innocent bystander?    Even if there is a (for example) 1 million dollar liability coverage, what happens when the bike owner's net worth is 3 million?     Please don't say "waiver".   Lawyers laugh at waivers.

This is why people carry "umbrella" insurance.  Your vehicle insurance only covers to the policy limits.  That leaves the rest of your net worth exposed if it's more than your vehicle policy limits.

And who adjudicates that? You?

I wouldn't even let my best friends ride my bikes, let alone rent it out. Shit, they better not even touch my bikes. As far as riding other bikes like a rental...something would feel wonky. I always needed my bike as I set it up. I rode other peoples bikes and they never felt right and I just didn't enjoy the ride ever.

I’d never rent my bike out. For all the reasons people here have already listed.

With that being said, I’d let a good friend/family member borrow my bike in a heartbeat. I have friends who I trust with my kids lives, so it’d be pretty stupid of me to not trust them with a dirt bike. You must not have very good friends.

Riders Share is a peer-to-peer motorcycle rental marketplace—often described as the "Airbnb for motorcycles"—that connects private motorcycle owners with people who want to rent bikes.

  • Dual-Sport and Adventure Options: The platform offers off-road riding choices through Dual Sport and Adventure motorcycle rentals, though availability depends on the discretion and rules set by the individual owner

Me and my wife rented some nice KTMs for two days when we were in Colorado a couple years ago. We could use them all day and just drop them off anytime we wanted pricing was fair and the bikes were sick both had all kinds of goodies on them.

His business plan kind of seemed like he bought a couple bikes every year and would use as personal bikes and rentals then the next year those would be full time rental bikes.

Yup.     There are red flags all over this.

No offense to OP...but you'd have to be insane to open yourself up to this kind of liability in the world we live in today.

Any good attorney would tell you to run like hell from doing this.      The words "civil judgement" should be enough of a warning.

I dont get why so many people seem put off by this.  There are plenty of guided adventure motorcycle tours, where people show up, rent a bike, and go on a tour.  This is kind of the same thing, but you get to rent direct from an individual.  It would be nice next time I visit a national park to be able to rent a bike when I get there and not have to haul a bike halfway across the country.

I’ve been thinking about something in the off-road community. A lot of us own dirt bikes that spend most of their time sitting in the garage, while other riders travel to places like Moab, Sand Hollow, and other riding destinations wishing they had a bike available.

Would you ever consider renting out your dirt bike to another rider when you’re not using it? Or, if you were traveling somewhere to ride, would you rent a bike locally instead of hauling your own?

I’m interested in hearing what everyone thinks, especially when it comes to trust, insurance, bike damage, and what would make you comfortable with peer-to-peer rentals.

I’m working on RoostR, a marketplace built for off-road riders to connect, find dirt bike rentals, discover guides, and explore new riding destinations.

The goal is to make it easier for riders to ride more, whether that means putting an unused bike to work or finding a bike waiting for you at your next destination.

Website: https://roostrmx.com

Curious to hear from the community: Would you rent out your bike, rent someone else’s, or neither? And why?

Yes, $5000 dollars an hour!! With another $5000 as collateral that can be kept if the bike is returned destroyed!!!!! doubt anybody’s gonna spend that much!!

Hi magoofan, welcome back.

If structured properly the lessor can shield themself from personal liability. I'm not sure it's worth the hassle, though.
