Many times I've had electricians bring me switch plates to shave down to fit the trim.

Not planning during the rough in as to what trim, etc... was going where.

But on a project like that, the builder would have definitely had that switch moved away from that rail.

I'll preface this with I have zero artistic brain cells. And I know it's a judgement call on which is "right". Having said that, it would bug the shit out of me that it's centered between the rail post vs the full length tread. And I'll say it's probably done correctly, just not what I like. But the skill doing it is not unappreciated.

Got in there and laid it out on the deck during the framing. 

Then went back and made the framers the top and bottom plates.

Then layered bending plywood over the frame before the sheetrock crew layered the wall with three layers of wet 1/4" rock.

The wall was good to work off of after that.

They had to come back and do just a minor bit of floating to the top of my paneling.

Six major radius templates from the wall to the final baseboard.

I thought it was just me. WTF? 🤣

That brings back some memories.   Ahhhh, the 2600.
