I do not see a problem with before racing on Friday, If everything is set up and the rider is hanging out in the pits with family.
But if you really get down to it bad idea during work to have little kids wanting Daddy to hold them or pay attention to them, and if you have a chick that needs any of that crap during your work time you need to dump her ASAP!
And as far as the racers Mom's and Dad's that is a hard one because a lot of the top Pro's cant wipe their own ass without direction from one of the parents some of them are like robots Mommy and Daddy have been so controlling over the years of racing they can hardly think for themselves-sad but true-
I thought it was totally true.
So many of the riders these days, especially the youngsters coming up, have mommy in the pits with them, and they can't live without her. What is up with that? You see it on alot of the vids these days. Bunch of pussy wipes!

For instance, growing up racing both my parents came to my races. My dad was very laid back and gave me my space while still making sure I had some support if I needed it. However, my mom was very strict and was constantly getting on my case about making sure I was in staging for what seemed like 5 motos before mine. If I had a bad moto or made a mistake causing a bad finish, she was always telling me how I should have rode when she has barely set foot on a dirtbike. Now just my dad comes to the races, and I feel like now I do so much better with that pressure off me. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom but she just didn't know how to handle the situation.

Some of the moms, especially, bring food, cook it for them, and practically put it in their mouths! What, the guy can't pack his own stuff and dish it out to himself? WTF? He can't be away from momma's embilical cord for 2 minutes in the pits without whining "where's my milk?"
I think it's cool that the families support their racers, but it's as if they can't let go. They have been there from the beginning and they can't give up control to a team or a different "professional" way of doing things. I doubt you see the NASCAR moms cooking and dishing up the food for their sons and following them everywhere.
The parents raised these racers to be dependent on them, and it shows. It's really kind of sad to watch.
I would say for this family, in particular. We don't get to go to many of Chris' events, but when we do go We are more observers in the pits. We totally go for moral support and happy just to be able to share some of Chris' experiences. Chris' dad and Uncle were pro racers back in the day and they understand more the importance of family and their place in the pits.
Like I said before, no problem with the family supporting the riders, but mommy helping them put on their jock strap is another thing altogether.
First, each team has their rules about what the protocol is in regards to the hopitality area, the mechanics area and inside the rig.
The main issue on this is, what is best for the individual athlete and what is the best scenario to allow him to do his job to the best of his ability on race day.
As a parent the hardest thing to do with a child is let go and allow them to become an adult. It is also difficult to let someone, such as a team, take over part of the job to bring the rider to his full potential.
Girls and wives can be a big part of the riders lack of success and in some cases part of their success. I know this is a touchy subject but I have seen first hand how a riders career has been sent downward because of their relationship with the wrong person. On the flip side, a few riders have moved forward having the solid foundation of a family life. So, if your career is having issues because of a girl, you may want to evaluate what your job is and who you are with.
Race day is the day for focus and doing your job 100%, no less. Having support from a distance may be the best option.
Think about it and do what is right for your athletes career even if it hurts or does not feel comfortable for you.
