C'mon Matthes. Not only does political dreck like this have no place in racing commentary, it's just a really stupid take. Trump has nothing to do with this situation. The endless political squabbling is tiresome enough without having to read this type of crap. Surprised the Racer X editors let this through:

"Observations"

"I don’t care what side of the political aisle you’re on, but the President of the United States spouts off conspiracy theories a lot, so it has enabled a lot of people to also feel like the obvious answer just isn’t the answer. It’s the world we live in, and it’ll just get worse as we go on but that’s a soap box for another day."

I see any political-referencing thread goes to non-moto. Probably for the best.

I wasn't mad or offended as I was by this as just disappointed. I enjoy racing content to get away from politics!

Is this really all you have to worry about today?

I'm honestly baffled why discussing a fresh article on a primary MX news source about fresh happenings in the MX world would be inappropriate? Matthes is the one that brought politics in, not me. To quote Walter, "Has the whole world gone crazy!" 😆

Politics can't be discussed in Moto-Related, so I moved it here for those that want to talk about it.

It was this or the Dumbgeon.

Apparently, the only thing he's worried about today is what you're worried about.

That's cool, I 'm just saying that Matthes is the one injecting politics into Racer X racing coverage. Not me.

Well this thread degenerated. 😄 I have been listening to Matthes for the duration. But apparently your vagina hurts. And you should move from Richmond. Being from the good parts of Virginia, that place sucks.

You know, Matthes' opinion aside, Trump really has been the catalyst for questioning authority and the "official" explanation. He's the guy who coined the term, "Fake News," after all. The result has been a healthy, in my opinion, disregard for the party-aligned doublespeak and misinformation that has been ruminated all over us for generations. The bad part on the flip side of that coin is that now none of us knows who or what to believe anymore. We must choose carefully.

Did you make it through the last guys term before you started not believing a word any of them say or was it just recently?

Maybe for a lot of us it got cemented with weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

I think the idea that conspiracy theories began with Trump is completely false, which is what Matthes is saying. The media has no credibility anymore, pumping up the Russia hoax 24-7, elevating the voice of con artist liars like E. Jean Carrol, playing a role in suppressing the truth about Covid-- just two recent examples. It is extremely damaging in that millions of people believe the slanted media crap. So the media is really the party clouding the truth and spreading misinformation. There are still people that believe the Russia hoax and think Fauci is the man. The media is also rife with CIA- that is not a "conspiracy theory" but absolute truth.

I think its a fair analogy. Think about when the term "fake news", started to become popular and how he has elevated a lot of the people who have been promoting conspiracies theories to have a much stronger voice than they did in the past.

Years ago the conspiracy people were  more of a minority and  the outer fringes of each party and they were suppressed. Trump started to use them to help sell his narratives. And amplify their messages.

Before Trump, who was the most famous person to claim a presidential  election was stolen from them?   And how well are they known VS trump.

I think  that if You look at it objectionably , or even ask Trump directly he will happily claim being the catalyst for the mainstream use of  "fake news" . I'm pretty sure if You look for it, a clip exists with him claiming he invented the term "fake news".

I do think it would have been better to leave out. But I do think that people are quicker to jump to a conspiracy these days as a result of the way the world is today. And that may just have been the best way to explain his thought  process on the strange race results.

My father and I were always talking politics from the time I was in highschool(late 80's) . When I farmed I would often go over to mom and dad's for lunch. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich and would watch the news with my mostly retired dad.

I'll never forget sitting there watching Fox News with dad when they announced we were attacking Iraq. I leaned forward in my chair, looked back at him and said this doesn't feel right. He shrugged his shoulders.

And a bunch of patriotic young men went off to fight this fake war, died, PTSD, became drunks, divorced,  etc...all because of a lie.
