XR400 - Barn Find Open build

As the title states, this is a build for the upcoming Barn Find Open being put on by Red Bull & Carson Brown at Oak Ridge MX in Iowa.

I traded a 04 YZ125 for this 1997 XR400 that has a maximum of 15 original hours. Wanting to build somewhat of a 4 stroke nationals inspired build without opening the engine up, and while keeping some of the XR charm as I plan to eventually put a plate on this and use as a dual sport rig around town and on the road as an outside sales rep.

Below is the “plan”, or at least the one in my brain:

• suspension tuned & set up
• Fender bag (can’t be an XR without it)
• Big carb or Lectron big carb
• Top clamp for 1 1/8th bars
• Skid plate
• Some vision moto graphics 

• Tires and maybe do wheels as well
  
  I am also looking for any advise on gearing or tips and tricks on these XR400’s. Bike runs strong but needs a carb clean and has a throttle sticking feeling but only when it’s running.
