"So from my perspective, the underpowered ktm did get the holeshot. But it is possible because it is underpowered, it did not spin the wheel so got better traction in this particular instance (mud and slop)."

haha hilarious my mate said I wonder what the dicks on here would say about the 350's getting good starts and I jokingly said that they will say its because they don't have as much power so their wheels wouldn't have spun in the mud

carlosmacho, the holeshot line was after the second corner so technically, Reed did get the holeshot, but Short no doubt beat him to the first turn.

I did not see the line they normally draw, and my second question is why the put the holeshot tower before the holeshot. I am not conviced the other picture showed the line. I would like to see another picture if there was a line draw, but techically the word holeshot is not defined so they could draw that line anywhere on the track and call it a "holeshot"

It is not a joke (and the "dicks" on this forum many are the ones buying new bikes and supporting the factories to even have race teams), like I said earlier, sometimes the 250s can get a holeshot (RV and MXON beating all 250s and 450 as an example) does that mean the 250 is a "better" bike that the 35s or 450? You have to answer that question for yourself but IMHO no, especially for the general motocrosser who may weigh a lot more than the pro riding a 250 in the AMA nationals or on a track up in altitude or with long straightaways.

When I was in England at the MXON, many of those attending who I talked to could not even afford to buy a new bike and had to settle with used 2 strokes (they were mostly vet and senior riders like myself who raced). If KTM wants to sell more bikes in America, it should consider giving Americans what American think they want, instead of what KTM thinks they should have and as we have seen from many people on this board (many of them Americans), they are not convinced the 350 is the way to go. I only know for sure, I won't be buying a KTM 350 when 450s exist from the Japanese that are more reliable and in many cases, less expensive are available. Marketing can go pretty far, but giving people what they want goes farther. KTM trying to force this down my throat (telling us the 350 is better) goes a long way to discrediting them in my mind more than anything else.

How long has KTM held on to linkless suspension (this only hurt sales because I rode a few of those bikes and I think they are garbage compared to the link Japanese systems)? KTM seems to be stuck trying to force people to use what they think is better than what works better in real life.

I see, so just sell people what they think they want, don't try to improve their riding experience by offering another size bike to ride they still sell a 450, if someone wants one
they just happen to think that the 350 is better I'm yet to see anyone from KTM talk down their 450 they just say they believe the 350 is more suited to mx and sx especially for the weekend warrior
If anyone on here (apart from the lurking pro's ha) think that they need the power of the 450 I think they're kidding themselves

If you look at the picture from TWMX that kongols posted on the first page, you can clearly see the line with Reed in front of the rest. Plus, he got the big check.

Short lets know body by without a fight. . He is the dirtiest rider on the track so says R C. Short is finishing right where he should be. the kid is not a top 5 guy with a healthy field. Never has been never will be. IMO his bike is as good as any bike on the line. Put Stewart or RV on that bitch and its the best bike on the line.

Did you watch the race on Saturday? He showed no resistance, at all. He may have 'had' a reputation, but I don't see it anymore.

But I totally agree with you about where he fits into the hierarchy of things, my post was just an ironic response to Hucksters comment.

REALLY>>>> Please explain why the bike is a tub of shit. Because its orange?? What???

I bet JGR bikes are piles of shit also. Hell, Regals bike must be a pile of shit too.

Kid, remember one thing. I say it often. A bike is only has good as its rider. What do you think?? A bike makes a rider?? That's how C riders and mini parents think. You must be one of those guys.

What some people don't understand is that there are times when a 250 might be faster on a particular track usually not by much, because it is more nimble (lighter weight), the dirt and traction may favor the underpowered engine for hook up, there may not be very long straights. The riders on the 250 are sometimes smaller and lighter, that combined with a lighter 250 bike may add up to someone getting with a 250 getting a better holeshot or faster laptime on a single track. That does not mean that 250 is "better" than a 450.

There maybe some instances where less power might be an advantage but not for the most part. KTM is trying to sell people this is a better bike. I would agree with them if this bike was the same weight at a 250 (without starter and battery) and had 100ccs more power, but this is not the case. I think it is a bad concept and unless KTM does a lot more to make this bike as light as a 250, it will go away with the hundreds of bad ideas that don't work in MX/SX (boost bottle, shock under the tank, radiators on the front forks, 23in front wheel, etc..)

The bikes these racers are top level factory bikes that are built to the hilt and have every advantage to make the 350 develop maximum hp. Hopefully the average riders understand that the bike he buys off the showroom will not have the Hp these factory bikes have. I would never buy one because I have a brain and can draw my own conclusion this is a bad idea and not be swayed by marketing from KTM.

The bikes are awesome stock. Every voodoo shop/suspension shop has a setup these days.

Factory bikes are not what they use to be. Low budget race teams can get pretty much anything they need to make a bike suit them.

Sorry Kid, it is 100% rider. If one used your logic JGR would be a Super Power in this sport if the bike was a big deal. Nobody has done shit on that team. Why?? Because they have B team riders. So let me get this straight. You say that a 250 is better for some conditions than a 450, and vice versa.

You just stated the whole purpose for building the 350! Something in the middle that can work in almost any condition.

Even with photographic proof of the 350 ahead of the full pack of the best SX riders in the world on the most highly tuned 450's on the planet it still didn't happen. Too funny. And the underpowered bike not spinning in the slop? I really like that one, surely the underpowered bike was not turning 3-4 thousand rpm's more coming off the line with different ratio gearboxes than the torquier 450's. Whistling

That is the American way and the way of Capitalism. If you don't sell people what they want, people won't buy it.
The other method is bombard them marketing to try to get them to buy something they really don't want.

Not that many people wanted open class motocross bikes. Hell, some of the mfgs. wouldn't even build them because there was so little demand for them. People were speaking with their wallets....."WE DON'T WANT OPEN CLASS MOTOCROSS BIKES" so they were killed off. Now, every 14 year old spode beginner hot shot needs an open class bike. Talk about sheep marketing mentality at its finest! LMAO!!!

I did not take that picture so I don't even know where it was. I did take the other pictures and that is what I saw. If Reed got a big check obviously I am wrong and I did not see where the real holeshot lines was. Funny how they would say the holeshot was was near the second turn and the holeshot stand was in the first turn, I find that strange. But because there really is no definition of holeshot and it is urban slang, I guess they can put it anywhere they want it.

Larry Brooks on the other hand has who??? I will help you out son. James Stewart!!!!!! They have no where near the resources that JGR has but they have the only thing that matters. THE RIDER!!!!

Only C riders and mni parents think its the bike. You must be one of them

I own you, You are my bitch. True Story!!!!Tongue
While I agree that the rider is obviously the most important factor, but you can't deny that Stewart is faster on his custom set up bike than he would be on a bone stock 450 with zero suspension work and when you have a lot of guys at the same level, bike setup does make a difference (in that a bad setup could hold them back). That having been said, I do agree with you in that all the top riders do have access to equipment that is more than capable so at the level that they are at, the bike makes no difference, especially this far into the season where general setup issues should have been taken care of weeks ago. Throw in a little mud and the bike makes even less difference because everyone has to back it off a little.

All season, the KTM haters have cited lack of starts as evidence of an inferior bike. Two of the better starters in recent history cannot get off the line since their move to KTM, therefore, KTM is a motorcycle of poor quality. Now that Short and Alessi get solid starts, the argument is that it does not take a great bike to start up front.

One cannot say of something that it is and that it is not in the same respect and at the same time.

The line was a fair distance from the first turn and the stand. Short was not certain where the line was either. Listen to Short's interview with Matthes via podcast.

Classic stuff from RMZZZZ. Here's a good one from January.

RMZZZZ says,

"Note to toroP, Reed is not winning any races. Stewart does not think of Reed as a threat. Never has. Dungey,RV and Canard will look at Reed as being in the way. Reed was afraid to push it against James. Now there are 3 more guys that are not afraid to go fast. Reed does not have what it takes to win. Can he get on the box? Sure. Can Reed win. No way!!"

The guy is clearly an expertWink

What are the chances of the 3 top guys crashing in the main?? Well it happened.

Props to Reed for the win. The dude rode pretty dam good.

He won't get another one this yr unless it is a mudder. IMO, Reed might be the best mud rider in supercross right now.
