I have bought a 2024 YZ250F that should have been a serious race bike, but the owner got hurt and it only has 2.5 hours on after the build.
It has dual injectors, fyll GYTR and insane engine job, complete Kyb A kit, recluse, Get ecu and full on CMT carbon kit. ++++ Apparently it revs past 15000+
It has a three speed gearbox with neutral being all the way down and then 1-2-3 up.. is this the normal setup for three speed gearboxes? I know nothing about them and looking to know a bit more about it. I have not gotten the docs on the engine yet so curious to learn more.
Yeah idk on that ive never seen a 3 speed with that set up. Typically 1st and 3rd gear are different with 4th just blocked off. Same when they do a 5 to 4 speed. The top gears a light plastic dummy gear/gears.
I think I remember Black Diamond setting his super trick CR250 up like this. Essentially removing 1st gear, as with a mod engine its really not needed.
Any pics? Sounds like a beast of a bike
Did previous owner happen to get injured when he accidentally hit neutral?
Have you ridden it yet?
I've no great idea of the engine specs, but, a 3 spd GB in a 250F, implies it's set up for nothing but Revs, Revs and More REVs. Well, much more than the average Rev happy 250 4T is.
The Dixon Yamahas from (quite a few, now) years ago - Carb'd generation, were running 3 spds, and purported to do 16500rpm in the mid 50s for HP. It was the generation / spec that Dean Ferris holeshot the German MXdN on.
And, hell yeah - 3strokemx's inquiry about hitting neutral is a valid thing. It would Not be Fun!

I have been on vacation and will request some more info from the builder tomorrow, so just managed to pick it up before leaving...
Will take some pics when I have it ready and done.. Apparently they have several builds with this 3 speed config and coming from a GYTR certified pro shop.. the owner on the phone said limiter was set to 17000 rpm.. Previous owner had it as a love project after an accident that tied him to the chair for some years.. He has ditched the chair now but it has a few bits like a rekluse rear brake lever over the cluth lever etc...
Tell me about the 2 clutch levers.....
Its a Left hand Rear brake kit.. works in addition to the normal foot brake.. this one is a Rekluse one : https://www.rekluse.com/product-category/braking/left-hand-rear-brake-kits/?srsltid=AfmBOoqdDQMENdZX8EwWWu19-88fwqrXzQ3TpOVTsCzGQU72N7lLk0pM
Good when u dont have much feeling in your feet aparently,, and some hard enduro riders have started to use them as well.. for me its something i will remove when i get around to it.
I have never heard of 3 up. Every 3 speed bike I know of was 1 down 2 up. For example, Zack Osborne’s Dixon Yamaha was 1 down. Seems it would take getting used to.
