I race with Craig,,,and have a can am myself so I studied this up close......it is even NICER in person....Craig is anal about details and making the bike perform even better than it looks or ever came from factory. Never seen him fail to start,or finish a moto.
Anyone would be proud to race or display this !

What exactly did the MX-# designations actually represent on the different Can Am models? Engine displacement or model year etc.?

The MX-# designation represented the generation of the MX model. Not at all related to engine displacement.  The first bikes using this desigination were MX-1 125 and 175 in 1973.  The first 250 motocrosser was 1975 MX-1 that was released mid 1974.  The last model was the 1981 MX-6B that came with an aluminum swingarm that I believe was supplied by Thor. The first year Open class Can Am was the 1978 MX-4 370.  Currently trying to finish one of those!
