Stellar bike setup for mud, getting a good start and avoiding roost, decent goggle vision and dry gear/boots is what makes someone look like a 'good mud rider'.

Muddy tracks really put some riders at a huge disadvantage and some at a huge advantage. It always makes for bad racing - sorry to be the negative nancy here.

If it's really muddy, whoever starts to check out a little the first lap or two will be the one who wins.

Hopefully with the track constantly covered, and some weather luck, it wont be all that muddy. Just slippery and some slightly muddy sections. *fingers crossed*

It shouldn't be all that muddy. Weather.com predicts the total rainfall on Saturday at 1/4 inch.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A strong Pacific storm that could cause flash flooding and mud slides likely will arrive in San Diego County late Friday, forecasters said.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall will be widespread and moderate to heavy in some areas, lasting through at least Saturday night.

The agency estimates the storm will drop up to 2 inches of rain in coastal and valley areas, and up to 4 inches in the mountains. The deserts are expected to get up to an inch of rain.

The storm also is expected to cause snow in the mountains, down to about 3,000 feet by Sunday morning.

"People should stay informed on this approaching storm," the NWS advised. "The rain will cause slick roads. Snow, blowing snow and fog will make travel hazardous in the mountains. People planning travel in the mountains late (today) and Saturday should be prepared for winter weather conditions."

A flash flood watch is scheduled to go in effect from 1 p.m. to Saturday afternoon. Also, a gale warning - meaning winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occurring off the coast - is scheduled to go in effect locally from Friday evening through Saturday morning.

I've been to SD before when they got a perfect window for the race. It dumped early in the day and then held off till both Mains were finished to dump again.

Someone make a sacrifice to the rain gods.

BTW - even when they tarp it, huge puddles form ... and yet I've never once seen them employ small pumps to drain those low areas. You'd think that would be a standard part of their routine by now. It doesn't do a whole lot of good to tarp it ... and then just yank the tarps when a small lake has already formed on top of the tarps.

The only thing that sucks is the news makes such a big deal, storm watch 2011, all bill$hit it ruins their crowds, walk ups won't show if they think its gonna be a mud-bath and wet for themselves.
