That is true, but my statement is also true. Weapons of mass destruction can be (successfully) used offensively only when the enemy cannot respond in kind. And the “enemy” includes any nation allied with our foes. Since 1949 there’s been a detente of varying stability. Would Iran upset that balance and proactively deploy a nuke? Highly unlikely, but not impossible. Just like any other nation similarly armed.

Youre talking about rational thinking individuals..  The main variable in all this stuff is that radical muslims do not think and behave rationally.  They are religious wackjobs that cannot be reasoned with.  Cutting off heads and putting it on Youtube is acceptable practice to these kooks.  What they 'might' do is difficult to quantify because they are not rational and are, at its simplest, 6th century murderous barbarians hell bent on smiting the kafirs.

If we had a asylum chock fulla people with schizophrenia,  it wouldnt be a good decision to give them the ability to launch nukes,  even small dirty ones.    These religious fanatics with a pedo bent should not be trusted anymore than the mentally deranged kept in Forensic Psychiatric Hospitals.

Exactly this. Can't apply western and largely Christian based moral code and reasoning to the decisions they might make. They're running a completely different operating system. They don't fear death. The highest aspiration for far too many of them is the brutality and martyrdom. They don't lack the willingness, they lack the means. Give them the means and it's go time. Mutually assured destruction isn't a deterrent for them, it's a positive outcome. Westerners need to accept this reality before it's too late. Plenty of their own people might be more reasonable than this and not support it, but the moderates have shown zero ability to stand up and run the show. We spent a generation in Afghanistan trying to facilitate it and it accomplished nothing.

I agree 100%. No nation wants Iran to possess nuclear weapons. That includes their so-called allies.  A nuclear armed Middle Eastern nation creates a dynamic with potentially horrific consequences.

However…our recent actions have emboldened nuclear ambitions. We have in effect proven why Iran would benefit mightily by possessing a nuke. While their manufacturing capabilities have been curtailed, our assault on Iran and its leadership strengthens jihadist resolve.  We have effectively kicked the can down the road while simultaneously demonstrating Iran’s ability to influence global economics via the strait. The WH and Pentagon were undoubtedly briefed but apparently Netanyahu had a greater influence.  And 6 months later, here we are.

Would the US show mercy if a foreign country killed it's leaders?

I would think not. Do you think Australia would want the US involved if they were attacked by Iran?

Iran doesn't have the ability to directly attack Australia, or the US, all they can do at that distance is incite locals.Iran has been restrained, considering...

Iran has been restrained, considering the US and Israel killed their leader, they have the ability to cause significantly more damage to US assets and Israel in the Middle East.

If Iran had the ability to attack Australia and did so. Would you want the US involved?

Iran doesn't have a history of unprovoked attacks, so your hypothetical question is irrelevant.

Just attacking its own civilians and, utilizing proxies to attack other countries/citizens….

How quickly you forget Hamas, Hezbola….

As I said, Iran doesn't have a history of unprovoked attacks...

The Hamas movement was founded by Palestinian Islamic scholar Ahmed Yassin in 1987 after the outbreak of the First Intifada against the Israeli occupation.

Hezbollah was founded in 1982 by Lebanese clerics in response to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon.

Why does your rhetoric always seem to support countries such as Iran? Do you also support Russia and, their invasion of Ukraine?

Just say you hate America already instead of this going in circles nonsense.

Osama bin Laden forged a strategic partnership between Hezbollah and Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda has received explosives from Iran and training from Hezbollah. Furthermore, Hezbollah leader and security expert Imad Mughniyeh inspired Osama to develop coordinated, simultaneous attacks as a regular modus operandi, and this has been the hallmark of most subsequent Al Qaeda operations, including 9/11 and the East Africa bombings. Both Hezbollah trainers and experts from Iran's Ministry of Information and Security trained Al Qaeda fighters in Sudan (in existing Al Qaeda facilities), Lebanon (in Hezbollah camps) and Iran (in officially run bases.

No, to both questions, the US Marines had no choice where they were deployed.

When the US fights Israel's wars, there are US casualties, the decision to fight Israel's wars is a political decision.

Mutt overreacted. He was easily rattled by an opinion. Not action, opinion. The massacre at the Marine barracks was a tragedy but letting a contrarian view get that under a person’s skin doesn’t reflect well on 20 years of training that focused on remaining cool under pressure.

We all should be here for a little fun and camaraderie. Every one of these political threads and lately the situation in Iran always at some point end up in nasty arguments , needling or trapping/cornering someone where they get angry and lash out. We all could do better. Sorry Mutt got a time out. It’s understandable  when it comes to his military back ground  that it would stir up strong emotions….unless you’ve been there , you can’t fully understand.

Mutt didn’t get to that point over one comment. L2S’s comment about Marines supporting a puppet  government were killed, started to piss me off. It’s like what’s next? Would he support something happening to my son over there?

I just have to step back and, go back to staying out of politics. I got caught up in it which is something that I don’t normally do. There’s some good guys here. In other topics. Some people debate/argue in good faith and some people just take contrarian point of view at every opportunity and take joy in pissing people off.

If i ever get to the point where all I do is troll to the point where I'm defending Iran over and over again or obsessing over a country on the other side of the world than the one I live on, I hope someone gives me the old yeller treatment.

Debating in good faith is one thing. Going the extra mile to be a prick is another. I troll but, it’s usually in humor. Maybe I get carried away at times but, I still think deep down, everyone is a fan of women’s beach volleyball.

Have a good week/weekend bud.

Now Mutt is out for 6 weeks. Can you blame him for getting pissed? We have a condom taste tester who would probably be right at home protesting with Antifa trolling and, Mutt gets clicked of the two.

I’m spending too much time here.

Mutt overreacted. He was easily rattled by an opinion. Not action, opinion. The massacre at the Marine barracks was a tragedy but letting a contrarian view get that under a person’s skin doesn’t reflect well on 20 years of training that focused on remaining cool under pressure.

While I can only speak for myself, L2S has done nothing but, pushed what feels like an anti American sentiment.

I just get tired of seeing people time and, time again, push what about nonsense while circle jerking without getting called out.

Anyways, onto bigger and, better things. 🤝

Sometimes it’s wise to not feed the trolls. L2S may or may not fully believe in what he posts, but he certainly gets this board to respond. Mutt threatened physical violence (virtually, at least) over an anonymous comment. On a motocross forum. That is not a good look and he likely regrets responding at all.
