Most iconic of the 70's - Hannah's lightning bolt helmet

Most iconic of the 80's - RJ's red/white/blue bulldog helmet (honorable mention Bailey's JT helmet)

Most iconic of the 90's - Got to be MC's 96' bubble helmet, although I like Emig and Bradshaw's helmets better (honorable mention Chicken's Troy Lee Shoei is badass)

Most iconic of the 2000's - this is where it starts to get a bit tricky because custom painted helmet's started to fade away with riders being forced to run stock graphics. That being said Pastrana's helmet sticks out as a front runner. I did like RC and Stew's 2005 helmets that were black with the white pinstripes. Those were cool.

Once energy drinks and stock graphics took over, helmet's got a lot less cool. Bring back full custom painted helmets!

Something about that black around the mouthpiece area. Lechein had one that was dark blue that looked good also. Kind of ominous looking 😎

I disagree, there is so much detail within the Redbull color. Much more than the old days of custom helmets being shared. But we all have our own opinions.

Not so much the helmet itself, but I really liked Magoo being one of the last top pros running a real duckbill!

My friend Chris Echelmeier and I have this conversation quite often. Something about those older helmets that still have timeless coolness (at least to us.). Chris is a helmet painter and did some of the iconic production graphics at TLD and then for the past 12 years at Fox. The Bell Moto 4 and Mag 4 still look killer. Mean, aggressive, fast. The RJ lid in '86 with red on top, blue on bottom was sick. The production version was cool but never as cool as the other for me.

Then the Shoei VFX's... Bradshaw in '94. I would have given my left lung for that lid.

Scope Ech's site sometime to see his stories about painting lids back in the day. He has a ton of good stories.

I wish so bad that Bell would reintroduce the original Mag 4 with modern materials and Troy Lee would make some of the old Aero 2 visors for them!

When I worked at a shop back in Indiana, the local distributor (KK Motorcycles) had Bell Mag 4's in the back of their catalog on clearance. Mind you, this was in '95 so not much demand. I snagged one for like $70 on closeout. Never wore it. Just have it sitting above my desk to remember a young Bradshaw on his YZ80.

That’s the helmet!  I’d like a blue one just like my old Moto 4, but if they made new ones today I wouldn’t really care about the color!

I feel like we're blurring the lines between iconic and helmets we liked haha but for me Ryno's sticks out

What's funny is I agreed with the first post but I've just looked through my trick helmets folder and I realised I've actually saved a heap of red bull variants so you're right haha

Born in 95 so the mid 2000's helmets is where I got my gear identity. TLD stuff is always coated, but something about the V3's,  encore and blitz gear is where I wish designs were even during this current era, ahead of its time. Clean, racey and iconic. Stew and RC made it look unreal with their sponsors and battles

There's also something core about the visor stickers just slapped on there.
