Matthes Observations on Reed

Here’s another tidbit in regards to the first turn: one of the guys who hit the ground there was Chad Reed, and he rides a Honda in case you didn’t realize it. Well if you watch the video, Reed was trapped under his bike for a little while before one of the track workers helped him up. What’s so unusual about that? Because each OEM is allowed to have two representatives in the first turn and the Honda guys were watching their riders (Trey Canard and Kevin Windham) sprint away at the front of the field while a guy who was actually the highest placing Honda guy in the points laid there under his bike. Needless to say Team Two-Two manager Dave Osterman was not happy about this and is lobbying to try and get a first turn pass for someone who will be dedicated to helping Reed get up.

Glad to hear Ozzy is trying to do something about this.
If they wont let Reed have a guy in the first turn,he should do like McGrath was going to do and sit out opening ceremonies.
Or something like that....til they give in.

So each OEM has 2 reps that can help in a first turn crash? So I assume there's 10 reps at the first corner, and they're there to help any rider on their respective companies bike right? Like surely it's not just for the factory guys right?
Sorry if that's a stupid question, I just haven't heard about that so I don't know what the exact rules are there.

WTF? isn't this first and foremost a safety issue, what if the exhaust pipe is burning his arse off etc...not professional, everyone on the track deserves equal treatment,

Umm??....wouldn't that be 40 reps? 2 per rider....20 man gate? maybe I read that wrong?

It's allowed in the first turn in case of a crash. You'll see guys with an FT (First Turn) armband.

For example, that's Yamaha's Dan Rambert working to get James Stewart's bike off of him (and Reed's bike) in the first turn. Reed has help on the way...though a little late.

The OEM's... Yamaha,Suzuki,Kawasaki,Honda,KTM each have 2 reps.

My memories are a little foggy.....
But I believe back when Brooks was team manager for MC,they told him he couldn't stand there.
I believe he told them MC was not going to do opening ceremonies anymore if he couldn't stand there.
I believe they gave in and let him stand there after that. Smile

Ahhh....the key word I missed was "team".....I was thinking each rider had two. Sorry for my stupidness.

Well that's kind of what I'm asking. I've never noticed 40 people at the first corner, so I'm thinking that there's 5 factories out there (Honda, Yamaha, Kawi, Suzuki, & KTM), so 2 reps per would = 10, and you basically have 2 Honda guys there to help out EVERY Honda rider (privateers included), 2 Yamaha guys to help out EVERY Yamaha rider (privateers included), etc. etc.
I was really just asking to confirm if I had the right idea there.
*N/M - question answered, haha. Thanks guys Smile *

Great pic love those stealthy looking ones.

Why not just have unbiased track workers that don't represent any team just help anyone that needs it, i could just see a Suzuki rep standing there watching a Kawi rider stuck, and stand there gigling cause nobody is helping him.

I see only liabilities with that analogy. That track worker helped so in so before he helped so in so. Just what I see going down in the AMA truck.

True, maybe the only way would be to have a helper for each guy on the line? and that will probably never happen.

Why the hell should Reed get a dedicated guy in the first turn? What about the other "privateers"? That's a retarded request and I'm kinda surprised Matthes supports their cause. Osterman should be taking this up with Honda, plain and simple.

The same guys that are riding them......the privateers.

I know there are currently some "track marshall" kind of guys that are at different spots on the track to help riders and they are not affliated with the OEM's.

I agree, DaveO should be discussing this with the Honda team not the AMA or Feld.

It's not so much that Reed needs his own guy out there. It's that Honda needs to have their two guys watching more than Windham and Millsaps, particularly when the highest Honda in the standings is Reed. But if Team Honda refuses to watch for Reed, he wants his own guy.

That's a BS rule.

Everyone gets a first turn guy or no one gets a first turn guy.

What if he was riding a Husky or Cagiva?
Then he would be allowed to have 2 guys standing there.....just for him.
The rule is sorta jacked. Wink

Yeah I remember that balcony. I think we launched about 50 paper airplanes off that balcony if I recall. It's all still a little hazy.
