Honda sold 2 versions of the CR250 that year, one had a shock #52400-KA4-771 that was not designed to be serviced...

The other had a shock #52400-KA4-772 that was designed to be serviced and came with a reservoir valve...

There's one on eBay for $75...

that is claimed to be the 52400-KA4-772, but I'd check with the seller that it does have a valve under the reservoir cap.

The one in the ad looks very similar to the bottom of my reservoir. I wonder if the 1983 shock would fit the 82. How did the fill these with nitrogen at the factory.

I'd guess Honda inserted a needle into the bladder to fill the shock that wasn't designed to be serviced...

Did you removed the cap from the bottom of the reservoir?

The bottom cap looks almost pressed on I’m not sure how it comes off.

The bottom cap was just a cover I got it off with a clamp and flathead. The shader and bladder was under it. IMG 9079 1.jpeg?VersionId=a1YnnJIxA

83 shock may work but not plug and play.  I've had good luck with Race Tech having parts to rebuild the shock on the '82.

I got the cap off and rebuilt the shock. Bikes been sitting for maybe 25 years it was all original down to the tires, but all the shock really needed was the reservoir filled up the oil was still clean.
