1977 Mugen 125 # 12 Steve Wise replica build

So I haven’t posted to this bike build form for quite a while. I was busy on a different project. But now I am really deep into this project. So I’m going to start posting regular post from here on out to the end of this project. This project has been extensive. Heavy, heavy, frame modifications to move the shock mounts to the proper position. and to except the Mugen up pipe.

So one of the first things I had to have done which was very expensive. I did not have a mugen piston for my top end kit. So I contracted Wiseco to make a copy of the Mugen piston. A friend of mine had the right to have that piston made Because he was the first one to send them an NOS original to copy. He agreed to let me have a batch made. They would only do a minimum of 12 pistons. So I had to pony up the money to have 12 pistons made.

If anyone needs a 1977 CR 125 Mugen piston let me know.

Next I had to spend several hours making parts that I could not find. Especially for Simons forks to mount to a 1977 CR 125.

I had to make the Brake stay, axle, and spacers,

And front fender mount.

I also had to make the necessary spacers to fit the rear wheel into the Thor swing arm.

Making all the little parts takes time, allot of time. So when i am set up to make a hard to find part i make seveal copies. so if anyone is looking for these type of parts let me know.

After making small parts that I cannot find like axles, spacers, brake stays, and brackets.

It’s time to get into the heavy stuff. Like putting the frame apart to get ready to modify it for new upper shock position. The Steve Wise Bike had a radical change in shock position for the shocks to be laid down at a steeper angle than stock.

The sub frame of the bike had to be completely cut off into several pieces for the modification.

And yes, I’m making more than one frame.
 

This solid bar stock will be cut up and machine to make the upper shock mount.

The bike does have more travel in the rear than the front, but not significant like 1 inch. 10 inches in the front 11 inches in the rear.

 So I got super lucky that a friend of mine owns a Steve wise bike that has the correct frame modifications. I was also lucky enough to know him well enough for him to loan me the bike so that I could measure the frame to get the correct dimensions to modify my frame.

But the real credit goes to another friend of mine, who originally built this bike and figured out all the frame dimensions. Thanks, Steve.
