I honestly think that was a better move for him rather than staying on a 250. Especially for outdoors. I think he’d be consistently getting top 10’s outdoors if he was in the 450 class right now.
I remember watching Austin charging through the field with a torn ACL because he had no quit in him. The guy has been through the wringer, never once did he give up. If we don’t see him on a dirt bike again, I hope he hangs his head high knowing he gave it everything he had. He deserves to enjoy his life with his family, hopefully one day he can find peace with the way things all worked out and not spend his life wondering what could have been.
Why am I so bummed if he retires
I really wanted to see him race a few more..even if he's rolling around in the middle to back (though I still think If he could get some momentum going he could be towards the front half). The next few years are going to be rough with all my favs retiring
( Forkner if you see this- put together a privateer effort and do a fair well run please!!
Deano was also "fragile" with constant injuries despite his high capability. Every time he got going, seemed he'd get hurt. Now Deano does pretty damn good cruising the WSX rounds, canada, and rando fill in seats for SX. Is this an option for Forkner? Take the pressure off, race some "lesser" competition, and make some good money?

Two seasons ago, Austin had an injury, but came back to race outdoors a posted some good results, by showing progression through the season. When he got hurt I posted words of encouragement and expressed my being a big fan, on his Instagram and his wife Rylee actually answered my post from her Instagram.
The same thing happened last season. What this told me was they were still in it together. Still in the fight to heal up, and get back to racing.
This season, after he got hurt, I posted similar words on his instagram. This season, No response. I know Rylee is pregnant with their 2nd child, but to me it's telling that Austin doesn't even post motocross related material to his Instagram anymore. He posted on March 2nd from the SX season and something from before the outdoor season started and that's it. Hasn't posted anything on updates at all. It's completely different than any season since he turned pro.
So that alone tells me he may be done. And that really sucks for the people like me who are still fans, and still wanted him out there. Pushing himself to get results. Showing his competitive spirit. So yeah, it sucks
We live in a pretty cool time, we can pull up a YouTube video and watch AF ride at his peak! I feel similar as I am a fan of the guy, but I don’t think I wanna watch him destroy his life to race a dirt bike.
