I was just thinking back to the good ol’ days and I remember the dogs talking about how their bikes were all clapped out as they bragged about them.

Let see em boys!

Cylinders, sprockets, handlebars, toasted rings, plastics, whole bikes, anything goes!

Not mine, but pretty cool.:

"At the end of the 1999 season, most of the 1999 bikes were used as practice bikes. This bike was used by Ricky Carmichael, as well as others. When he was done with them, he sold them. The guy I got it from said he had a MC Shop in AZ and that he bought it directly from Carmichael and that Ricky's name was on the title. His son rode it for awhile and when they moved to the DFW Area, put it in a shred on their property (actually outside the shed for many years before). After many years the son needed money to fix his car and put a very poor ad on CraigsList. Basically it said "Kaw 125 Carrmichel" - something like that. One poor picture of it in the shed. I tried for two weeks to get ahold of the guy. The ad disappeared and then went up again with a phone number. I reached the father at ten o'clock in the PM and he told me the story. At 1am the next morning I am in the shed with a flashlight verifying that it was real. I bought it and the father said he had the title somewhere and he would get it to me. Never found it. So, I have a real PC Bike with a story behind it. If it really was one ridden by RC we will never probably know. Scott Sheak said it was one he had, but little else. I need to contact him again since he said he had pictures and posters of it." -RufRedBaron

Fantastic suspension though. Agree about the engine.. very linear, mellow power.

The linear power worked well on the 250. The 125 ,not so much.

I got this RM 125 "cheap". The bottom end seized my first ride, then got a Wiseco crank that seized 1 or 2 rides later, THEN rebuilt the OEM crank and everything else and it ran like a champ forever.

1965 Honda CB160 twin. It was the worst dirt (even though it was actually a street bike) bike I ever owned (1971).

My 2008 CRF250R. Almost 400hrs on the bike. Stock crankshaft. Carb needs rebuilt but it still starts first or second kick every time.

I don’t ride it much at all anymore, mostly just my pit bike, but a few summers ago I tore it down to the frame and cleaned everything.

I love your bike. I had a 73 TM250 from 74 -76. I know the TMs got a bad rap but I loved that bike. Won a lot of races on it.

That’s my kind of clapped out bike:

Top reasons to buy a stripped down clapped out bike:

  1. No arguments on the dyno, runs super clean with open intake, no need for an air box, easy access lubing, low maintenance, easy clutch play check with the cable length visible, quick rebuilds if anything fails, easy frame inspection,No need for extra weight with fasteners, or clamps, quick dry weight estimation,
  2. never worry about laying her down and breaking the blinkers off, it’s all in the frame flexibility they say.  A natural beauty in its bare state must be admired, a conversation starter, gets you outside, it’s all in the bar bend and Renthal may buy the bike for their ad campaign if you want to ever trade it in, captures the winter imagination and dream of riding, you don’t need to go fast to have fun on a bike, in this case I think the rider is the one with the skills and talent,
  3. Good for the environment: treads lightly no rear wheel track marks, good around pets/kids, not too noisy, no battery or emissions, Looks like an opportunity for a reserve tank/fuel reservoir bike stand,
  4. Light, easy to maneuver, wheelies easy, can seat bounce and stay low, it’s all pegs and grips anyway, easy to grip with your knees no shroud in the way, encourages keeping your attack position and forward momentum, keep thinking stay over the bars, never miss a Nac-Nac or Can-Can opportunity worrying about getting hung up, redefines the “no-nothing” freestyle maneuver.
  5. Challenges the mental side of the sport, still getting outside, that bike has a lot of potential, no need for number plates it showcases the rider, helmet optional at that speed and use, could plug into video game consoles,
