With all the talk of a new SX venue needed in the Northeast or SouthEast or going back to San Fran or 3 Anaheims, why not Syracuse, NY??? The Syracuse Dome is massive!!! We have a large size airport 10 min from dome thas always has connecting flights to all the major hubs, we have great night life, hotels, and restaraunts. Plus were within 5 hours of NYC, Boston, Phillidelphia, Pittsburgh, Toronto and many other highly populated citys that have nothing to do in the winter more entertaining then going to check out live SX race. MX is HUGE up here. I have literally a dozen great racetracks within 2 hrs of my driveway including Unadilla and all the hardcore hill people. The Syracuse Carrier Dome may be the only actual dome i know of in the Northeast Capable of holding a SX. There allowing dirt inside for the first time ever in March for a monster Jam event so they would be negotionable I'm sure. Just an Idea......

I find it hard to believe that a major population center like the North East has no Supercross race, still, after years of debate.

Eh screw supercross.. just bring broome back. Texas is probably the worst track. Have all the supercross's on the west for all I care. Just leave the nationals alone

Didn't I read once that it was something to do with the unions that prohibited a SX in the NE? Don't quote me on that.

Bring a SX round to the Northeast. I can almost guarantee it'll be sold out.

Supercross in the Carrier Dome would be very cool.

Does anyone remember the Supercross in the Meadowlands?

I was there.

Gar47mx, I think that Feld has long wanted to go to the Northeast, but there are few domed stadiums, which makes Syracuse's Carrier Dome their number one choice. But as I understand it the building has long had a "no dirt events" policy, similar to Dodger Stadium until just recently. The good news is that from what I'm hearing, the Carrier Dome my have reconsidered that stance, given the changing economy, the demand, and the fact that the college football team has not exactly filled the place the past few seasons....

In other words, we should keep our fingers crossed!

Law 131, I rode a bus to the '91 Meadowlands SX that Jeff Cernic pulled together for three dozen of his best friends, it was awesome. I was writing for American Motorcyclist magazine at the time and had an interview libido uo with JMB. That night he told me he was quitting motocross as soon as possible to go road racing and I honestly did not believe him at first. Good race, big crowd, but the costs of putting on a race in that area is immense because even the flagmen were union, if I'm not mistaken.

I remember the Foxboro Supercross round. I can still see Jo Jo Keller out there mixing it up with Bailey, Ward, Glover, etc. I have some old photos (lousy ones) of that event.

DC,

JMB was much like Pourcell, an excellent rider. I was surprised when he left MX for road-race.

As DC has said, there is resistance from the Carrier Dome owners (Syracuse University) about placing dirt or snow on the dome floor.

Okay, I thought I remembered something about union interference.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a lot of college basketball played in the Carrier Dome? If so, the seasons are conflicting, I doubt you would find a big enough hole in their schedule to get an SX event in there.

I think its clear that there is enough fans in the region to warrant an event, but that's only a small part of the equation.

Syracuse is a HUGH basketball town. ( I'm watching Cuse and Marquett as I type)

It would take the right kind of promoter to loosen up Syracuse University.

It can be done.

There's a monster jam in the carrier dome in march. If they can put dirt down they can make a supercross track.

Any other options than the carrier dome? There has too be a place east that would benefit from a sx round! I know the fans would love it and i agree it would sellout!

Thanks for the response DC. I was hoping you'd see this post. Yes the Syracuse Carrier dome is used for basketball but only till March or so. Monster Jam is there March 11th so it could be done. It would work perfectly if it ran the weekend before or after Toronto to make travel easier for the teams. Syracuse routinly has the highest attended games in all of college basketball season after season. (we currently hold record for a NCAA game) . Syracuse loves its sports, plus with 6ft of the snow on the ground 5-6 months of the year people are itching to go to whatever event or concert is around just to get out of the house. I can see the dome as I write this... I can only hope. My fiancae is the supervisor for campus catering at Syracuse University, I keep telling her to tell the chancellor that we need some moto inside the dome!!! l brraaap

I live in the Rochester N.Y. area and would love to only have to travel to Syracuse to watch SX.....Toronto isn't the same as the regular roundsand the b_1lshit to deal with getting there. Love having Unadilla, time for Supercross in Western New York .
