New sport (sprint car) (6/13/26 race update)

5/10/2026 1:36am

so tonight went real bad until it went good, car was stuttering and falling on its face in hotlaps/qualifying and pulled off, went leaner in the main and it got worse, went richer and it was way better for the main, got to get comfortable and was literally the first main I started since my first race and the first main I finished, got 8th out of 11 but the other guys had mechanicals so technically I got last😂 will have videos up tomorrow, I didn’t run the GoPro with all the jetting drama but I have iPhone video

Congratulations on finishing the night on track !! Funny how finicky fuel systems can be, ESPECIALLY alcohol ones. So much maintenance on the entire car between events. Long ass checklists !!! 🤣

I agree, he did a fine job.  I did notice he is doing like I did at first.  he had the RR smokin' pretty good between 3-4 !!    Takes time to learn how to conserve rubber,   I slicked a RR completely off so bad in heat race,  it looked like a drag slick.  In 8 laps!  LOL  But I didnt blow it out.  (I actually still have tire as a keepsake from those days)

Well done young fella,  you are on the right track now.

How much stagger did you end up using?

Finishing the Main is a benchmark. It’s one of the hardest fought lessons I’ve learned the hard way…in Baja! 🤣

Congrats on the progress and “Gettin’ it DONE!”.

My buddy David Perry #27 smoking me, known this guy since quarter midget days 2000-2003. He used to race against my younger brother

I finally came across a Youtube vid accurately showing what racing a 360 winged sprinter looks like, at least in my experience.  The tracks I raced had mediocre lighting, shadows and lots glare.  I used to tell people who asked me,  its like looking thru a plastic milk jug and people waving flash lights at your face and someone else throw mud at your visor .  When the track is heavy you have a mega stack of tear offs, its always humid AF and fogged all to hell,  crazy lighting and glare, and if your pit helpers put too much baby oil on the hood and dont wipe it good,  you end up with that on your visor too.    To me,  this vid is the most accurate Ive seen online.

Raced again on saturday heres some videos

Heat race the car was set up way too loose for the dry track, i had  8 pounds of air in the right rear and 6 in the left rear.

lowered the air pressure to 6 in the right rear and 4 in the left and raised the front end up a little, we also quickened the rebound on the left rear shock and the car was way better for the main. About halfway through I felt a really bad vibration in the rear end and had to pull in, today i took everything apart and the birdcage bearings on the right rear were so bad that i could barely spin them by hand, last week i noticed it was a little notchy but didnt think anything of it. Hopefully that was all it was I get the new bearings tomorrow and am going to shake the car down later this week

Well done young fella.  What did your Tel-Tach say later?   You were gettin' her up there a few spots, made me smile.

You using a single or double bearing birdcage?   'Raised the front'?   You reblock the front or just put a few turns in the stops?

You are doing great,, thanks for the vids.

thanks the main was the first time i really felt comfortable and like i was able to get the car to do what i wanted, still need to be more agressive though but that will come. just like in moto i took small steps and never really wadded myself up along the way. the guy in the 24 car is also a rookie and i definietely wanted to at least beat him.

How many cars were there?  I almost went last week, but was worried there might only be like 6 cars.

Could hear the vibration ... must have been loud as hell in the car! I know you're getting a lot of voices helping you, just keep inching up on it you're doing it right. Dry tracks like that, try a taller gear if you have a set. 630's to a 618's or so.

Such a bummer. I've only gone a couple times in the last 5 years because the car counts have been so low. 15-20 years ago they were usually getting 20-30 cars plus another 15-20 seniors.

That was the lowest of the year so far we had 17 at the first round, the dwarf car class is growing which is a good sign because eventually they move up, come say what’s up after the main if you go

the GoPro really helps me analyze my driving, what I need to improve on is my intensity in the first three laps, I get crept away from and then I hold that distance once I get wound up and comfortable and even pull them back in a bit but by then I’m a quarter lap down. During hot laps before we line up I need to pin it and get fired up, and I need to stop spinning out in the heat races 😬😭

We went way tighter with the car setup, I’m realizing I like a tighter car just like my uncle did, he basically set my car up like he used to set his up, we went to 18 right rear spacing from the start which felt a little tippy in qualifying but was super hooked up

Are you guys moving the LR tire any? (spacers)   Or only the RR?    Taking stagger out will damn sure tighten it up.    I have zero non-wing experience,  so cant add a thing on wingless set up.   Totally different worlds.   But I DO understand loose and tight, and both are scary if too extreme.

Its a shame you cant hit a play-day and put in lotsa laps with zero cars around.  Thats the best way to find out just how hard you can go in and still stick.  Right now you dont know exactly whats gonna happen so you hafta be careful in traffic,  playdays allow a person to find the edge and be get confidence to go in deep and know what your gonna get.    Unlike the stock car bubbas say, rubbin' is NOT racin' in open wheel.
