Would you pay for SX?

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 12:56am
On SX races, that werent on live TV, would you pay $5 a race if you got full audio and video, BUT the video was just a 1 camera, virtual seat. Panned back so you could see the whole track, but no cuts, basically like you actually had a seat in the stands, but with commentary you could actually hear.

would you pay $5 a race for it?

I would pay $20.00 a race for full live video & audio web-based.

If it is was on TV PPV - Would pay $40.00 a race,or even the cost of a ticket.

Sounds like a good idea on the surface. The promoter could probably sell a lot of virtual seats.

If it were in High Def... and I had my PC hooked up to the big screen TV... it might be good.

So, most likely I would pay $5 per.

Think of all the money we would save in beer alone, by not having to go to the stadium.

I would pay a person to stream it live over the web with better quality than the current stream I watch each week.

I wouldn't pay FELD a fucking nickel to watch but I would pay for someone to "share" a video or audio source from the race.

It's free on TV in HD in less than 18hrs. I don't watch to see who wins. I watch to see how the riders race the track. No way I would pay to see the same thing 18 hours earlier.

Imagine if you could go to a movie theater to watch an HD broadcast of each race LIVE on that huge screen, with kick ass surround-sound stero and Weege and Holley doing the play-by-play.

Now how much would you pay?

To answer some of the above questions.....

800x600 resolution, 700~900 bitrate, 30fps video, camera out of the press box, panned back enough to see the whole track. A virtual seat. (bit rate is total info... to put this in perspective, wide screen, huge resolution HDTV is about 5000 rate, Standard Cable tv quality is about 1200 bitrate. so very close to standard tv)

Its been established Feld is a business. As much as we scream and yell, they are a business like any of us own or work for. Money talks. The live audio cast went away because.... why give it away for free, when it costs us money to do it, alot of money. Especially when we have to pay to get it on TV over some audio. Ok, I get that, and dont stone me here, it does make sense. So, charge for audio to cover it, ect ect... still the return isnt worth the effort, especially to a group of people that think, sorry Dan, like Dan. "if the stadium is sold it out, you should get it for free".....? why Dan? Especially when no matter what you do, its never enough.

so, using this, have a number in mind. Thinking is, Feld, will pay you X a race not on live tv, for a virtual seat. You expend nothing, its all free money, and what is streamed wont compete with your tv coverage. Thats where I am heading with this.

There are plenty of other ways to make it work without having a pay webcast also.
I know you were against CPA/collecting info, but there are also other ways....

Plenty of offers out there to where places will pay you to get visitors to watch 60 second commercials $2-$3 a view.Maybe 10 commercials during the event,to unlock the live stream (10 minutes of commercial).

5000 viewers, at $20-$30 a night = 150k
Even if it did cost them 50k a race, that is still 100k profit.

And there are hundreds of other ways to do this....
The people in charge of running that webcast do not have any experience in marketing web properties/profiting from them and they failed at it.

Problem is if we were allowed to watch it any other way, Speed TV couldn't sell commercials for their day after re-cap show and Speed controls where it's broadcast. This is exactly what they've said before when yhey started charging.

All we really need is a live track feed, then you need no commentators, so it's not about costs
