Good on you for quitting, Chance. We all have our habits, and some are worse than others. As for me, I'm struggling to quit soda. I don't smoke, drink coffee, take any drugs or medications, and rarely drink alcohol. But if I try to go the whole day without a Coke, it's a tough day.

I was addicted to soda, years ago. It was one of those things where for me anyway , it wasn’t a caffeine addiction, I just liked drinking it and it was more of a habit, if that makes any sense. I still have a soda every now and then but don’t keep the fridge stocked like in the past.

He drinks a ton of club soda. At times, like last night I will have a strong desire for a pop. So I drank most of diet grapefruit Shasta. Very satisfying.

Grapefruit soda, Squirt, or Fresca was a go to back in the day…. Ice Cold….💯

I had my friends from California bring up a few cases when they were here last summer.

You can find it online but, it’s overpriced. You won’t find it in Washington. The cheapest I found was ordering online through Walmart. I’ve done so once in awhile.

Scammers onAmazon will charge you $22 for one can.

Wow, I can't believe you guys drinking soda! That stuff is loaded with a bunch of crap. 🤢

I can't remember the last time I drank a soda by itself. It usually has to have rum in it and that was a long time ago. Now I usually just drink jameson on the rocks. It cleans out the system. 😂

I started dipping Skoal at 14 or 15, changed to Copenhagen around 22.  I quit one time for about 6 months, then went fishing with some friends that dipped and started back.  9 months ago I started a new job dealing with the public and hated having to hide my spit cup and  having funky breath.  So at 61 years old I quit tobacco, but am supplementing with the nicotine pouches.  Every now and then I miss having a dip, but the pouches help, I get less nicotine, and no raw spots in my mouth.  Plus, Buffalo Trace tastes way better.

Edit:  Congrats to everyone that stopped their addiction.

Looks like quitting the chew was a lot easier for you than trying to quit Vital non-Moto Damien. Congratulations on that brother . I have a 30 day chip ready for you, but it seems like you can’t even put a whole week together.  🤣 Remember, it’s just one day at a time and you don’t have to dive into all the bullshit with all the other dip shits around here. You have to want your piece of  mind more than you want to win a useless argument. I am glad that you can’t stay on the wagon though , because you do try to steer stuff away from politics for us.

Who said winning an argument was the point? . 90% of the timeI know I’m wrong but, just keep going to mess with whatever clown took the bait. 😂

Politics do get old. I get it’s a hot topic but, I think a lot of these pussies use it as an excuse to act ways they wouldn’t in person. Maybe even use it as an attempt to be relevant.

I just miss the cool shit before politics took over non moto. Thankfully, salmon fishing is getting close so, I’ll have that soon.

Have a great weekend buddy. 🤙🏼

My dad smoked back in the days when everyone did it ( 40’s). He did this until the early 80’s. Then, one day I took him and my mom to the emergency room because he was feeling pain in his arms. While he was there, he had a massive heart attack and was shocked 8 times before he stabilized. He never picked up another cigarette and the doctors told him that one of the reasons for his heart attack was due to 40yrs of smoking. A year later he had a quadruple bypass and lived another 25yrs. I remember him telling me that after he stopped smoking, every day and every week that went by, he felt better and could breathe more. He never realized how much smoking had affected him.

Back then, unfiltered. But then the cigarette companies said "we made it safe, we added a filter" and what was the filter made from? Asbestos!

Not quite the same thing, but sort of related….

My brother was diagnosed with esophageal cancer about a year ago. He’d had really bad pains for over a year but his doctors couldn’t quite pin it down. He spends about a month every year in Mexico, and about 14 months ago while down there he was hospitalized and they ended up finding the cause. He has Barrett’s esophagus, but he wasn’t having any normal heartburn type symptoms because he’d been using prilosec or whatever for years, and just assumed that he wasn’t having any issues with stomach acid. The medications were masking the symptoms.

He’s undergone surgery and chemo and his prognosis is really good, but it’s scary how it was missed for at least a couple of years even though they knew he shouldn’t be having the severe pain that he was.

Having once been a smoker working construction. The laws changed in the late 90’s. You couldn’t smoke on site anymore. I switched to chew.
Wake up, sit in traffic on my way to work, I had one in. Arrive on site, had one in throughout the day. At almost all points throughout the day, I chewed.

These last couple days have been stressful. I woke up with a lesion under my tongue. I threw my last three rolls in the trash and, quit that same morning. The first 24 hours sucked. Since nicotine is only in your system for 24 hours I knew after that, it was mental. It wasn’t/isn’t a big deal to go without it. I haven’t given it a second thought. Other than the pain under my tongue. I finally set up an appointment that was two days out, got tested for everything. HSV (since I was a slut before getting married) and, everything in between including cancer. Waited three more days for the results while just keeping my fingers crossed.

Negative… It turned out to be an ulcer caused from stress.

I used to think that it could never happen to me but,  these last few days proved, if you fuck around, you can in fact be next in line to find out. I’m done with that shit.

I figured I would do my part and say, if you chew. Quit.

Thinking, how the fuck is my wife going to get by financially since she has had her fair share of health issues over the years. A kid who’s deployed. He doesn’t need think about  anything outside of his duties. Thinking, if it’s really bad, getting a piece of my tongue cut out. All the shit that comes to mind being irresponsible from a position of health. I work hard, play hard, exercise 6 days a week, don’t drink but, half ass’d it by chewing.

Anyways, that’s been the last week for me. I’m just thankful the news was good. I guess it was the scare I needed.

Like I said, if you chew, quit.

Glad you got it checked out and got on the right track. I had a similar issue 2 months before I retired. I had to use salt tablets at work to keep electrolytes up (open air plywood routing plant for La Z Boy in Mississippi) and was getting a nagging, itching, stinging sensation from my tongue that I thought was from overduing it with the salt tabs. But it didn't go away and I finally looked under my tongue to find a bid ole lump. Got it checked out to find it was a 10 cm squamous cell carcinoma. They sliced it off the left side of my tongue and margins showed a clean removal. No reappearances after 2 1/2 years thankfully. I opted not to get preventative radiation as recovery checks were good. I have a friend that had throat cancer (never used tobacco) and after witnessing what he went through with the radiation (no other treatment options) I decided I wasn't doing that unless I had to. BTW I was an off and on smoker from teens to late 40's would get up to a couple packs a week and then lay off it for several months so I'm sure that contributed but sometimes weird things happen. Just don't ignore signs from your body!

He drinks a ton of club soda. At times, like last night I will have a strong desire for a pop. So I drank most of diet grapefruit Shasta. Very satisfying.

Grapefruit soda, Squirt, or Fresca was a go to back in the day…. Ice Cold….💯

We used to get a grapefruit soda called Wink when I lived in Ohio that was a great mixer with whiskey!

Stopped for over a year. My friend got throat cancer…survived but took its toll on him. For whatever reason and don’t remember why but started back.

What was weird was even though I was able to quit the desire never really left.

I was just thinking today I need to quit again taking our baby for his year check up. Just turned one today.

Chance,

You started this thread 10 days ago! That's forever when quitting an addictive substance. Mad respect! Growing up my dad smoked, a lot. He started early teens. He told me they started smoking "nut leaves" when he was young. He smoked till the day he passed (well, actually the day before). When I met my wife she smoked. I didn't but was so used to it that I thought nothing of it. One day she thought she might be pregnant and just quit. Never picked up a cigarette again. From what I read smoking was one of the hardest habits to break at that time. Mostly because it was addictive but also, because you couldn't get away from it. NO matter where you went at that time, there was smoke in the air. After she quit, and I was not around it ALL the time, I started to realize just haw bad it stunk. So happy that I can go to a restaurant and nobody smokes. that's one reason we haven't been to an indian casino in 10+ years. It used to be filled with smoke!

Anyway, congrats on making it 10 days!

TM

WoW! How in the hell do tobacco companies get away with this is beyond me. 🙄

First, they put something in the tobacco to get you ADDICTED, then to make it safer they put in asbestos filters! ☠️💀

And no one is held accountable. 🤔
