So we found out last night that you can't switch bikes during a red flag stoppage, but are the mechanics allowed to make any adjustments to the bike during a red flag stop? like adjusting the suspension or bars or something?

I think he could have switched bikes if they brought it to him, he just couldn't leave the stadium to go get it.

No you get 1 bike per race.  A restart is the same race.  Otherwise teams would have a second bike in the mechanics area ready to pit stop.

Hmm, I guess I misunderstood them on the broadcast, or perhaps they didn't know.

1.8.4 MOTORCYCLE USAGE

a. Teams may present a maximum of two motorcycles to Technical Inspection for each Rider, provided that both motorcycles are of the same make and model. Motorcycles are deemed to be approved only after a Race Official has assigned a frame number to the motorcycle and recorded the frame number for that Rider.

b. Any motorcycle used in Competition by a Rider must have completed Technical Inspection, passed the sound test requirements at the Event and been approved for that Rider prior to being used in any session.

c. Riders must use the same motorcycle (same main frame) for Qualifying, Heat Races, Last Chance Qualifier, Parade/Sighting Laps and Main Event.

d. If the motorcycle's main frame is damaged, the frame may be changed only with approval from Race Direction. Approval must take place prior to usage of the new frame.

e. For Triple Crown Format only:

1. Riders may use up to two motorcycles throughout the event.

2. Both motorcycles must have completed Technical Inspection and passed the sound test requirements.

3. The rider may NOT replace motorcycles after the 30-second board has been displayed on each specific race.

4. Motorcycles may be replaced in between races.

5. Riders or a team representative must notify a member of Race Direction if a replacement motorcycle is being used

RC didn’t  even know how long the race was, so they probably don’t know all the rules either. They can work on bike to an extent, but I think there’s some new “mcadoo” rule where if you caused the red flag you can’t renter the race. Added this after Atlanta the one year I believe he did the flip attached to the bike.

The AMA official (Laurie Miser) really saved the day for Davies and for the AMA.  Can you imagine the uproar if the AMA was accused of letting a rider leave the stadium floor, then DQ-ing said rider.
