As I decided that having a supersport zx6 to run for a season wasn’t enough I bought this 05 KTM 125.

Looks pretty good for its age, until I dropped the oil and it was bright silver and full of metal. The clutch was burnt to death and someone has done the locking nut up with a screwdriver. Such is life with a 20 year old motocross bike.
Also, can someone shed some light on the barrel? I was expecting to take the cylinder head off an and see the piston. It’s also has engraving marks all over the engine at various places.

It's a Head / Dome insert - for variable combustion chamber dimensions.
That bloody Clutch Hub Nut - just so bloody dodgy!
Thanks, there were a lot of things loose on it as well.
Im not going for the immaculate look as I will be doing a bit of racing over the summer and then Weston beach race on it. I just need it to be mechanically sound.
Over next winter I’ll tear it down and sort it out properly as full resto. As Im sure you know road racing eats money like no tomorrow so the budget is tight.
Ran the vin, it’s an 04. Been made to look like a Rattray edition, bud head, u shaped wheels, clamps. I think the exhaust has been smashed to pieces at some point as it looks like it’s been replaced with new. Not particularly bothered as I had an 04 as my first big bike so there’s a lot of nostalgia with
It looks like the shavings came from the kickstart mechanism, it was packed full of them. Full rebuild now Im this far in, crank, bearings seals and top end.
I love how cheap and simple all this stuff is.

Does anyone know if a 144 cylinder will fit on this engine? And if so what year?
Also, does a 200 engine fit in the frame? Just thinking about what I want to do with it
It can be done but you need the 200 crank the whole 200 top end cylinder, head, power valve. And a couple other parts like longer cylinder studs and head stay mounts.
Same thing for the 144 setup.
Thanks, it needs a new cylinder and crank anyway so that might the way i go. Will be better for Weston beach race to have a bit more power as well, I did it on a 125 before and it was seriously hard work.
Getting there, I went with a silver frame as I think it looks better than black, it should hold up better as well.

As I remember right my first pre-Production 144 back in 07 had more Bore and Stroke than the 125, I think from 2016 onwards the 125/150 shared the same Crankshaft
But cool Projekt your 2004 , for me one of the best looking KTMs ever 👍
Yes you need to get 144/150SX crankshaft along with the cylinder for your bike. Newer model cylinder and crankshaft will fit up to 2015 to your bike.
I have special 58 mm bore cylinder in my possession which turns the engine to 144 with out crankshaft swap just like the later models. Sadly the thin cylinder wall is cracked and the cylinder would need to welded and replated.I might sell the cylinder if you are interested. It comes with complete exhaust valves and cylinder head fitted for the 58 mm bore
