converting Varg EX to an MX

I'm strongly considering picking up a varg EX, spec'ing it with MX suspension, and buying a separate set of rims to have a street set and a MX set. Is the frame the same as the 1.2, or is it still different? Is there anything I'm not thinking of that would prohibit it from being a good mx machine that's also street legal?

I just picked up my EX last nite with the intention of doing exactly as you described. A buddy of mine that has one confirmed that the MX plastics will bolt on the EX and supposedly new gen Ktm wheels will bolt rite on as well. But the EX suspension can be sprung/valved to do both pretty decently. After riding my buddy’s set up Varg EX this past Sunday was all the persuasion I needed to pull the trigger on one.

Let me know what you think! Will the headlight easily unhook and be replaced with a plain number plate?

It should based on what I’ve seen online. My buddy left his head lite on but swapped everything else. My MX kit should be in mid next week and I’ll let you know how it goes.

I was also wondering the same thing. Looking to pick up a second bike for local single track and just messing around. A Beta XTrainer and the Stark EX were on my short list. Delayed trying a Stark for a long time. Rode one at the MX track yesterday. Everything else is off the list.

My EX has 9.4 hours on it and is going up for sale. It’s just too heavy for me to pickup, and I can’t race it anywhere.

Apologies for not updating but the complete mx kit will swap over to ex with no issues. Headlight and all. I’ll add some before and after pics when I get home. Currently out of town.

Also if ur still wanting to have a separate setup for the street there is a lot of info on electricdirtriders.com form on the best way to do it. Lots of good info on that forum in general for the varg.

I surprisingly can't find much info on there, the search function doesn't turn anything up and when I Google it, this thread and one from electric dirt riders about converting Mx to EX with a lot of unanswered questions come up.

I'm getting the itch bad now, how are you liking yours?

Yea the search bar on that forum sucks. Skimming threads usually turns up good info. I’ve got about 20 hours or so on mine at the moment and couldn’t be happier. Still haven’t gotten around to order a set of sumo wheels though. And sorry for not updating with pics of the plastics swap.

apologies for the shitty pics. I’m posting from my iPad away from my garage rite now but just for reference the white kit is the standard ex kit and the gray is the mx kit. And yes the headline is super easy to swap. Less than two min ordeal.
