This is maybe the most conflicted Ive felt in years, maybe ever. I was all in on tomac finally getting his 3rd sx title this year. He has all the stats in the record books, hes one of the best ever, and he got robbed of his 3rd sx title. Tomac should he a 3 time champ and I was all in on rooting for him to get it this year. Tomac, James, Reed, Rick Johnson, and Jeff ward all have 2 titles. Getting his 3rd steps him up into that next tier with webb, stanton, and hannah. That in my opinion is where he belongs and it would be such a great story after getting robbed he came back and stamped it this year.
But then you have kenny who just came back into the picture. He is now the winningest rider in history to not have a premier sx title. We all saw when he took that next step and became the best sx rider in the world and we also saw how just as fast it was ripped away in his crash. Him coming back and finally getting his sx championship on the yellow bike, at this age, it would be maybe the greatest comeback story in sx history. Now that hes snuck back into this thing I’m kinda rooting for kenny to win it all now.
Hunter could win it all, but I feel like he has plenty of time if he doesnt, for ken and eli it might be their last chance, who ya got?
Even though Tomac deserves redemption for 2023 because that was absolutely his, Kenny retiring without an SX title would never sit well with me. So definitely Kenny.
I think Tomac would not renew his contract and retire if he won the SX title this year.
Tomac is a legend and an all timer already, winning or not winning this championship wouldn’t change that.
Imo Roczen is the most skilled rider ever without a SX title, and ‘deserves’ to win one.
I think Hunter may still have them both covered though. It’s going to be a very interesting run to the final flag!
Your comment about 'next tier' shows why championships shouldn't be the only metric of a great rider. There is no way in a million years that Cooper 'Cooked' Webb is a tier above Eli, Stew, Reed, RJ or Wardy.
As for your question: Kenny. Eli already has two.

Yea hes not better than tomac obviously, I wasnt saying tiers of how good they are but tiers on the championships ladder. The fact that webb has 3 now makes it even more crazy that eli only has two (even though he should have 3). Eli is better than his championship record shows so getting his third will better match his championships to the rest of his stats.
Too bad they couldnt just tie, and go onto a tie breaker race 1 week later at like Los Angeles International Speedway or somethin..

But tbh this is maybe one of the only years where I genuinely don't root for anyone because each of the 3 main guys would be super cool to see win it. But tomac already has 2 and I think Hunter will have more shots. For Kenny this might be the first and last real shot at it

Kenny. When Kenny was battling Dunge I thought Ken was arrogant and unlikable. After his injury he was much more humble and now in the later stages of his career is someone that I can cheer for. Eli has seemed to go the other way, was likable and now he seems so standoffish, to boycott Pulp just because he said he’s getting old and didnt think he would win the championship? Heck his dad still goes on the show, would think he could take 15 minutes to talk to his fans…
Yeah, I'm on board with this. I've always pulled for Eli in his battles with Kenny. As much as Eli really does deserve another sx title after 2023, I'd like to see Kenny get one after all he's gone through. I dont think either of them beats Hunter though, so it's going to be a mute point. Its a really tough question rhough
