Moto Mom Needs Gear

Edited Date/Time 3/25/2026 7:25pm

Hi there. I grew up in desert clubs and raced from when I was 5–12. Then life happened and I wasn’t able to ride for 3 decades. Long, fun stories for another time. Fast forward past the years of missing bikes all the way to my bones, and I’m finally back.

I have my 7-year-old son on one too. I’m riding solo with him so it’s been quite the mission. We ride every weekend, and I just got myself into some desert races. I finished both. The last one, 21/60 in my Schedule DNF, so I’m pretty proud that I made it thru.

But… I’m getting hurt pretty bad from what should be minor incidents. Pants melting to my calf, rocks bruising my bones, etc.

I’ve gotten my son and I this far without help, but when I look at safety gear, the cost and options have me at a loss. I’ve pretty much dumped all of our savings into getting our bikes going and buying what is obviously subpar gear.

I was talking to an awesome guy out in the desert and he mentioned all the great people on this site. He said a lot of riders here might have gear they’ve traded out or grown out of, and suggested I make a post. So here I am. Just going with the flow, doing my best and grateful to be riding.

Please let me know if you happen to have gear that would fit a 40 year old mom haha. Or a 7 year old.

My son: Y26 pants, YS jersey, kids 2 boots

Me: 34 pants and size 6 men’s boot or women’s 8

You sure are an awesome guy! You made us feel right at home out there. I still can’t believe I got to stage with the Four Aces. Here’s a pic of my Dad back when he used to represent. Once I’m all safe in decent gear, I’m looking forward to many more races and to officially joining the club unless I’m already considered born into it. ❤️ looking forward to getting my boy set up for success too. Thank you for being the kind of person that made me dream of getting back out for all these years. Don’t be too humble. IMG 6170 9.jpeg?VersionId=ksE

What sizes are you looking for? Both for you and your son?

Thank you so much! I’m wearing a size 7 boot right now and my feet move too much so I think I need a 6 for sure. The helmet is probably a bit big too. But the chest protector would be awesome! I’ll send you a pm to see if we are close to each other. I really appreciate it!

@karenhaines my son just decided he’s not interested in riding right as he turned eight so we’ve got some gear sitting in the garage.  What size helmet does your boy wear?

Gaerne boots size 2 boots never got worn, and the Fly Formula helmet is nearly new and a small.

You cover shipping from Northern California and they’re all yours.

Have kids jersey and pants and maybe chest protector too I’m happy to throw in.

Cheers and have fun out there!IMG 5802 2

Damn you guys really are awesome. I met Karen at the races a few weeks ago and saw how much she and her son were into it , yet were lacking proper gear. Because my granddaughters are still recycling our gear , I wasn’t able to help her out so I told her about Vital and how we take care of each other over here.
