Albertson wearing knee braces??

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 12:38am
Anyone know if he was wearing knee braces or not? I hope the answer is no considering the amount of money we pay for these knee braces. I feel "safer" riding with mine, but wonder if they will really save my knees in a situation like Jimmie's...

I always liked having knee braces, but I do believe that Pastrana blew one to pieces into his leg before. I think he stopped wearing knee braces...correct me if I'm wrong.

I also read from a reliable bottle of sauce, Tongue could have been from here, though I doubt it, Silly That, K'Dubb never has worn knee braces ever, stick that in your tailpipe and smoke it. I love the fact he still wears armour, as well as Trey, at least last time I looked, [ hate to take a peg to the nether regions] , I'm now turning around on the neck brace, sort of, with the impact to the back, still prefer to see them on than off, butt , Tongue about the first question, has K 'Dubb gone through his whole career whithout them, Please no speculation just for sure facts, I got a headache, thanks in advance, Sideways

Under the right conditions you can still tear your ACL, even in a custom knee brace. Braces don't protect the ACL when your leg is straight.

Jimmy has always worn them in the past so I don't see things being different on Saturday. I have torn both of mine with two different brands of braces. It's just something that's gonna happen.

His knee bent sideways, which shouldn't happen if your wearing knee braces. Who knows, it looked like he wasnt wearing any from the stands, just the way it bent.

I always felt knee braces were a waste of time til I blew my knee out. After that if I didn't have them I felt as naked as not wearing a helmet. I would assume, because i think 95% of all pros wear them that he had two braces on. With knee braces, unlike neck braces, and chest protectors i never felt they hindered my mobility.

Marvin Musquin uses to wear knee braces but had the same injury than Jimmy in Bercy... Some people don't like them like Stefan Everts for an example, who used to wear knee guards and still does...

I think I've seen Everts put on a pair of handball protectors for his knees. I personally will sell my braces. I've never come to terms, constantly feeling out of control.

I believe Pastrana wore knee protectors/pads--not braces, but I could be wrong.

They are "preventative" just like a helmet or boots or anything else. They don't make you immune from still sustaining an injury. I always wore custom fit knee braces but with enough force applied during crashes still managed to have 4 surgeries on my knees (i'm 23). All you can do is wear the gear we have available to help "prevent" and hope for the best!

Yes I know they are supposed to be "preventative", but what I'm getting at is perhaps they aren't "preventative" after all? According to witnesses Jimmie Alberston's incident was far from a bad crash - he simply leaned in, put his leg out, and blew out his knee without any violent force from a crash...if this is the case, maybe these knee braces aren't "preventative" at all. That's why I'm trying to find out if he was actually wearing them or not.

I'm not sure about you guys, but I wouldn't ride without my knee braces. Not necessarily because it will save you from blowing out your knee, even though it can't hurt. But they help with gripping the bike and not ruining your knees doing it. They also help save from getting your leg smashed if you're racin and happen to get t-boned. There are a million different reasons other than tearing your knee to wear braces.

My knee braces broke both of my femurs and I still wear them.. Like BQ said, hard to grip the bike without them and much more protection if you get t-boned. I feel much safer with braces on.
