Here's mine at 3 weeks, arthritis replacement. That was 2014. I rode quite a bit up until a year ago but since a replacement hip joint is not as captive as a regular hip socket I was always worried about the ease of dislocation in the event of a crash. Ended up hanging it up due to a degenerative disc issue in my spine caused by...riding, picking up my grand kids became more important. Yep, old.
I went with the hip resurfacing 3 years ago and I have had zero issues.
When I researched this procedure two things that I liked were it is stronger due to leaving the femoral head intact and that if it ever wears out it you can do a hip replacement easily.
Same here. Done in 2015 and still riding at the ripe age of 58

I broke the right femoral neck 15 years ago in a crash and had a "hemi replacement" which is a ti rod/ball in the original socket. I was back doing most things in a couple months including riding a jetski. Back on a bike in 6 months and back racing around a year. The hardest part was swinging the leg over the seat, this hindered me for a couple years. I packed along a small plastic foldable stool- that extra 8-10 inches did the trick. I was still kick starting without any issues but having a "button" is so much better.
The newest procedure is WAY less invasive now.. they go in from the front..smaller incision and far less muscle/tissue disturbance. Recovery time is now half of what it used to be. No one should be afraid of having it done..much relief with amazing new tech.
The coolest part for me is that they can do part swaps now. If the ceramic ball and plastic cup get worn out they can replace them while leaving all the ti in place.
Just had my left hip done, 2 days out from surgery. 20 years ago I cracked my pelvis and dislocated my hip. Doctor told me then at some point I’d have to get it replaced. Bought a new 2026 YZ125 in December. I’ve only ridden it 3 times. I’m hoping I can do more after I’m healed.

Good 'ol Florida heat and rain. Could set yer watch when it poured in the afternoon. I was Navy stationed at Cecil Field (Jacksonville). I fondly recall workin A-7's on the flightline in the heat. Then a storm cloud would pour for 15-20 minutes. When it would stop the humidity was suffocating. Ah the good 'ol days🙂
I had a severe acetabulum fracture with femur break 20 years ago and am getting closer to needing the hip replacement. My problem is that the rod in my femur is lodged and wont come out. I went in a few years ago to have the rod removed but after 2.5 hours of pounding with a slide hammer they abandoned the surgery. So getting a full replacement is off the table. I've heard many different stories about the dangers of the resurfacing. It sounds like yours wokred out pretty good. Honestly I don't really want a full replacement anyway. What part of the country did you go? Doc? Etc.. I am 54 and still ride and race 50+ expert and don't want to stop.
I had hip replacement surgery almost 21 years ago. Stryker Titanium with ceramic ball… Right side. I was skiing and snowboarding 6 weeks later at Park City. No issues. They went thru the back side and I lost a lot of muscle so it took a long while to get my legs strong. Stopped riding dirt bikes.
I mountain bike Black Diamond trails a few times a week (no e-bike) and I hit fairly big gap jumps, 20 to 25 feet weekly and no issues. I had a few bad crashes a few years back when learning how to ride advanced trails and hit big jumps but no issues with my hip.
I got my hip replaced three years ago. Basically the same situation as you. Hurt in crash and not worth fixing.
I was a year off the bike on doctors orders. I still think it wasn't enough.
Now I am completely fine, no pain at all, complete freedom of movement.

I have a left hip and a new knee. I am 65 and want to maintain the ability to feed my wife and cats ..... So I don't ride, but I daydream about it often...
Plate and 2 screws don't sound like a lot for what you have! Your gonna have to be careful with this one...I'm sure ur Dr. Told you.
