For the sake of my beloved motocross community, I am warning everyone to do their research before hiring an engine builder. I regrettably referred Chad Watts. Yes, That Chad Watts, of Watts perfections to my 52-year-old buddy who has cancer and wanted to build his old late 80's 250R 4-wheeler as a fun project. Chad quoted him over 10K to trick out and rebuild the old motor. My friend sent him $5100 and his motor in January of 2024! Chad has been elusive and claims he is busy. I finally reached out to him for a demand of money back in December of 2025 and told him I would go public with this as no one should be defrauded. He begged me not to and asked for 2 weeks to come up with the money. We even said keep the motor. We just wanted to cut our loses. After a few weeks of hounding Chad sent a picture of a check noting REFUND in the Memo line. The check was never received. He then said he would send another check which he didn't. I spoke to him Friday of last week and he said he would forward a tracking number. Never did. So....Buyer beware. I have all the receipts and text massages to back up our claim. My buddy filed a small claims (under 10k in Indiana) lawsuit and once that gets put into record I will post the link here. If anyone else has been defrauded, please reach out to me as this may become a criminal issue. Stay safe out there!

This sucks, I hope he makes you whole again…..moto is a weird industry some times….certain guys only come through for magazines and semi known former pro types, so they can perpetuate their craft on honest paying regular guys….varner, eks goggles come to mind…..
This needs posted in the moto-related section for all to see, a lot more eyes in that section. Don't believe me go search up the Varner thread.
Is this someone acting as chad watts or are you saying this is actually chad that did this. Feb. Of last year I sent my tmx carb and reed block to be modded on my cr250, he did so in a timely manner, was helpful on the phone and asking questions about my set up. The carb came back and I was happy with the work. I know another guy currently having a carb done with so far good results. From my experience and others I have known to have him do work I haven't heard of any fraud. So that's why I asked is it really am or someone being a fraud off his reputation.
Chad is super busy when I dealt with him last summer. 98% was good dealings, albeit some stuff was pretty slow to get out the door but it was around Loretta's and I totally understood, that is a big part of his bread and butter. The other 2%, well kinda out of his control but communication is key and last couple texts just got ignored so I let it go. I'd use him again for primo work but keep a good eye on the situation. Again, he was stupid busy and not keeping up well.....
