I often find myself watching old '01 Nationals on tape - and every time I do, I'm more convinced that the only way to capture the feel of outdoor motocross is to show both classes, both motos, in the correct order. You can see how the track changes, you can get a sense of the excitement from one moto affecting the next, and the announcers pick up on things like, "Ricky Carmichaeal talked Mike Brown into starting on the inside, he got closed out, and RC decided to start in the middle in his moto."
A 2 hour show with both motos of both classes is the only way it can be done right.
I remember complaining one time because ESPN preempted a national for a womans' lacrosse game - I formally apologize. Nobody has ever done it better than it was done in '01.

Time to yank the coverage from Speed or else demand they step it up with ground coverage camera crews like the canadian nats. (I have heard that the canadian nats are filmed by 3 guys running around on foot with cameras like we do as spectators.......no wonder the coverage is 1000 times better). Get rid of the spectator blocking scissor lifts and for the love of Jesus H Christ (the real one not the poster) get rid of the fucken helicopter. Worthless distant, lack of prospective footage, noise, and banners rapping around racers necks. Get the fuck on the dirt were the action happens in this sport.
If they can film the canadian nats with 3 cameras on the ground imagine what they could do with the 30 people Speed has at the ama nats.
The fucken Lifetime channel could do better. Ok maybe not but you get the idea.
The problem was ESPN would bump MX or SX all over without notification. It really sucked to stay away from the net all week then have the show cancelled and replaced by womens soccer or poker.
Speed is better IMO... but still needs work.
