The meat grinder continues.  This one sucks, I was thinking this was the year for Casey to step it up a bit.  He's shown speed, but also inconsistency.

From Racer X.

This may be a dumb question but with broken collarbones being so common, how do the numbers compare to back when everyone wore the good hard plastic chest protectors that had the part over the shoulders?

It only takes like 15-20-lbs of pressure to snap it. One of my 3 collarbone breaks i felt was from my chest protector. One was definitely my helmet hitting it. The 3rd idk that one was a wild ride and glad it was only some bruises and a collarbone.

Don’t they often break from hand/arm impact?

Rather than direct impact on the collarbone.

It is the full face helmets that started it more than anything. Lots of leverage when you twist and wad up that extension against the collarbone. Even in minor crashes.

Bummer I was looking forward to him having a full season. Good news if it’s only a collarbone. He should be back on the bike soon and able to finish the end of sx

the head hits the ground and when it rebounds back the helmet edge hits the other collar bone and it breaks easy like someone said above … it only takes minimal pressure to break it like 9-12lbs of force

I get that it dont take much force, and its sometimes from the helmet hitting it, but that makes me wonder even more about is this a situation where the older protectors like AXO or the older Fox that were made out of the hard plastic and covered more of the shoulder would prevent some of those breaks. Yes Im old, but it seems like we have went backwards in some aspects of protection. Now where did I put my kidney belt 😕
