I know they are updating from their own data and when we do updates we benefit. Are they able to pull data from us via the app? I haven’t looked into it and that is what I was getting at. Honestly I don’t know how it could benefit them without being able to relate to the crash that leads to a deployment and make a judgement about tweaking the algorithm.

I also want it to err to the side of deploying more rather than less.

No, crash data is not being transferred to Alpinestars from the app. The unit would need to go in for service, where they can download and analyze it in house. It definitely helps them if footage of the crash is provided as well.

First ride tonight in my tech air at an indoor track (ohio sucks). 6' 193 and I chose size large. 0 complaints as far as fit and feel go. Maybe even a little more comfortable than my previous Fox chest protector that i wore under my jersey and the little extra weight was not noticable in any way. Thankfully no deployments and no unnecessary deployments in mx race mode. I was a little mental at first thinking if i bumped the thing wrong I'd waste $100 canister but im happy to report no issues.

It seems like everyone has been sold out for awhile now.

Anyone know they will be re-stocked?

They were supposed to have landed a few days ago but got pushed to the end of the month.  I'll see if I can get a more accurate date on them.  I have a feeling that the entire next order will all be sold out though, its been an issue on the street side for them as well.

Check with mxboot.com. sounds like he has a good rep! I bought one of these "blemished" ones and it was no biggie. Little discoloring but im wearing mine under so its a non issue. Honestly wouldnt even notice if wearing ovet jersey either.

Really? That sucks. I was hoping as more and more of us mortals ride in them they could analyze the data and make changes as needed.

Are you guys letting your spare canisters freeball in your gear bag or keeping it in the box? The box it came in is massive.

If what you’re asking for is continued development and fine tuning of the algorithms, that is absolutely taking place, just not by consumers. It’s the R&D team and athletes helping with it.

I appreciate the heads up!

I signed up for all the re-stock notifications at Revzilla, A-stars, MXBoot, etc

Snagged one this week. Now the snow just needs to melt here in Minnesota!

Had my first deployment today and it was definitely warranted! 1 small tip over with no deployment and a front end swap to high side with a deployment. I was using MX Race mode which based on the use today seems to work pretty well. Overall happy I had it on, not sure that it would have been an injury crash, but certainly would’ve hurt without it. Time for a canister I guess…

Made it through 3 days of riding in Daytona without deployment. Its definitely nice to know its there tho! Its definitely a tad warmer and traps heat a little more than a regular chest pro, but not enough to complain about. It was in the high 70s a few motos.

Did you wear anything under it, or just the unit with a jersey over it?

Shortly after Barcia had his crash I found a good deal on the system I couldn't pass up.

As everyone else already described, it's quite heavy, but you can't really tell the difference to a normal chest protector while wearing it. It's definitely a bit hotter than my previous A-6 chest protector, but with winter in full effect in Europe, it's not affecting me yet.

If anyone is concerned about false positives, I rode about 4-5 weekends without any crashes and it didn't deploy. Even if you forget to turn it off after a moto because you got the memory of a goldfish, it won't deploy on you in the pits when working on the bike, apparently.

I had my first pre season race on Saturday and unfortunately, properly tested the system. Crash in turn 2 and getting run over by multiple other riders. After the dust settled, I got up, noticed some pain on the side of my ribs and was kinda mad that the thing didn't go off! Turns out- it did in fact go off! I didn't notice it at all during the crash. It didn't feel any different on the body after deployment. Unfortunately, when I got ran over, the connection between the buckle and the strap broke- that could have happened with any chest protector though.

It takes quite a while to deflate apparently, I was told I was the Michelin man for the first 2 laps. Here's the only picture I could find- not sure when it was shot, but judging from my clean goggles, it must have been in those first few laps.

Here's some tire marks on my side. I wish the chest protector had a bit more coverage on the side like my A-6 did.

Fortunately, I bought a spare canister before the race, so I had the pleasure of testing the system and changing the units between races too.

The manual is a bit confusing and the adapter for the valve doesn't seem to work perfectly, as I couldn't get my bicycle pump to show me any pressure. (side note- don't use a bicycle pump if possible. It's not a lot of fun to pump up that thing by hand 😂) I inflated it quite a lot and it seemed to hold the air, so I just said it's good to go. Exchanged the canister, zipped everything up again and restarted. It reset my ride mode from MX race to the normal MX mode again, so back to the app (that I almost couldn't log into because of some weird phone number formatting issues) and set the mode again. On a side note, that app has like 2 stars in the app stores and it's completely understandable- they seriously need to rework that. If anyone from alpinestars reads this, hire me!

In moto 2 I had a tip over and it didn't go off, so everything seems to work. If it was up to me, that's enough testing, the thing works, I don't need to crash anymore now. 90 bucks per canister also hurts, not as much as broken bones in that area though.

I wear a thin sleeveless under armour type shirt, then the chest pro, then Jersey. I rode two full days in north carolina this weekend. Same story, didnt test thankfully, no inopportune deployments, comfortable. I also go the full day without ever unbuckling or taking it off, so no deployments under normal wear but i am dreading when a someone gives me a hard pat on the back or something lol

Agree on the app being terrible. Took me a few attempts to get a firmware update actually completed in the app and loaded to tech air. The app is just slow and buggy.

Glad to hear you are all good after the crash

Does the app only work with the street version? I can't get mine to connect.

My app works well. No issues.

I just need to stop crashing. Gets expensive!!

Neither was a major get off, but it sure makes for a soft landing!

We had our first test this past weekend at a race at tomahawk. He was going to pass around the outside and got into some loose stuff, front tucked and sent him good. He was certainly sore but the airbag did its job and did it well. He lined up for his next class a few motos later and just wore mine as I didn’t want to repack and throw another canister in at the track. Luckily we were pitted right next to Sam at MXboot and I snagged another spare canister. $120 per deployment isn’t ideal but I’ll take it considering the potential alternative medical bills.

Honestly I’m probably the only person that likes it the way it is now ha. Everyone else hates it. It bit a few people this weekend

Tomahawk clockwise takes some getting used to but I like it. I won’t say I prefer it this way, but it’s still developing.

I crashed pretty hard in my tech air a couple weekends ago. I've set it off on a tip over before but this time I feel like it definitively made a difference.

I was anticipating to get the wind knocked out of me once I knew I was going over but I ended up ok. Just really sore shoulder from the impact.

Also, that is Ezra Lusk that avoided hitting me and stops to slow down traffic at the end, appreciate his courtesy!

Actually, for me lap times are about 9 seconds a lap slower going clockwise.

Fortunately, my A-stars has not gone off riding that track!

getting bucked around Tomahawk is the true test for the tech air.

Interesting. The scanner for the QR code on the app does nothing so I try entering the code in manually and it won't connect, even with the charger connected. What phones do you guys have? I have an iPhone 16 still running iOS18, haven't upgraded to iOS 26.

As for the deployments I haven't had mine go off yet fortunately. i've put a lot of time in mine riding in the Socal heat with no issues. It's just a part of my gear now, I don't even notice it. The right side buckle (opposite of the lights and charger) gets stuck sometimes but not a big deal.

I did mine first on a Pixel 5, but recently got a Pixel 10 pro and it works on it too.

I was able to get it connected using my work phone which is running the latest IOS. Low and behold, there was a software update. Glad I connected it.
