I estimated a hard get off at 19g and thought that was a lot.

I wanna know what one was he wearing? A prototype specifically for him, or something off the shelf?

Either way I want to get one bad. I'm doing my masters degree around controls engineering, focusing on this sort of stuff, and I also broke my neck (6 years ago on a DH mountain bike) while wearing a Leatt neck brace. I'm personally done with the bracing. Really looking forward to the future of MX safety in this arena. If we can dial in the safety of this sport even just a little bit for a $1000 top of the line airbag system, or less (ideally way less), I think the sport will grow significantly.

Semi offtopic (non-moto) but in 2003 Swedish Indycar racer Kenny Bräck (1999 Indy500 winner) survived a 214G crash, returned 18 months later to take the pole at the 2005 Indy500… later won the Rallycar event at X-Games in 2009 over Pastrana.

Hope to see Barcia back soon!

I remember that. We were in okeechobee racing late models that weekend. I swore he was dead. Last time I saw something like that was Dale when he hit the wall at Daytona. We were racing lates then to. That was my first and last time going to the 500. Idk just after that im good.

The trade show that year had an awesome Chevy 1500 and 2500 all tricked out with a cut out tale gate for moto. And in the beds were 2 Chevy truck kawis. Things looked legit for appearance nothing off the shelf looking. I should see if I still have those photos.

So what’s the deal with these things in terms of reuse ability? Will they need to be rebuilt be astars after each deployment? Or is it something that you just deflate amd repack?

They have replacement cartridges, but believe they are fairly expensive, at least a couple hundred dollars. Hopefully as more development happens the cost can come down, most likely will price most people out at this time.

I'd think it would really depend on how big of a crash triggers it.

They did a whole thing on an episode of Pulp. It’s recommended for it to be sent in for service after 5x or whatever it is to have the bladders checked and stuff from stretching.
