Bikes that blew the competition HP wise

Like to see which bikes had a big hp advantage over the competing bikes?
All years and capacities.

Heres one of mine the 76 Italjet 50, this thing had a 26mm carb and no reed valve
was/is a rocket. Look at the size of cylinder fins, you'd swear it was a 125.
When I rode it as a 85kg adult 10 years ago it would do nothing till 8k rpm then claw the air
I cant imagine how it went with a 40kg kid on it back in the 70s.!!!!

Almost any KTM built in the last 15 years. KTM knows how to build power.

2003 ktm 250 had over 50hp stock, were the competition had around 45hp.
Those are 500cc numbers!

That Italjet was the trickest thing on the planet back then. Hard to find any info on them these days. Also had an 80 that was just as trick.

HP King of it's class? Hard to imagine anything ruling that one more than the YZ250F when it first arrived on the scene. Of course , it was "competing " with engines half its displacement. One of the mags compared them best when they pointed out their HP numbers above 30. The 250F did not make much more peak hp, but it made over 30 hp for around a 5500 rpm spread. The closest in comparison was the KTM125 which stayed above 30 for 1800 rpms. Think the Honda only stayed over for 700. No wonder the 125 was instantly deemed obsolete. Damn shame too, they never belonged in the same class. No way to get that cat back in the bag though. With the direction the sport's gone, bringing the 125 class back would be a good thing.

Those Italjet's were quick little bikes.
I raced against a handful of kids who had those back in the late 70's & early 80's,at Maulkie Park,Washougal,Woodland & PIR.
I always wanted one... Smile
However,we ended up getting a YZ50 and punched it out to a 60,it seemed to keep up. Wink

As for the MR 50, I had one of those also as a play bike...the thing was super slow compared to the YZ50's & RM 50's that I had rode.

Also,I did have an 88 CR125 that Eric Hall raced the 125 East SX series on.
The bike was pretty much stock,with the exception of an 87head and a custom cut pipe.
It was fastest 125 that I had ever ridden/raced.No comparison what so ever to my 87 RM125 ,or my 89 & 90 RM 125's.

I had one of these in 1974. The fastest 125 on the planet at the time. The thing was a rocket when it ran. It would walk away from an Elsinore. But it was also like riding a hand grenade with a loose pin. I used to push it back to the pits a lot.

Yup.

I will add the 87 CR 125 Pretty much was good too.

The 83 KX 80 and even the 60 were way far and above anything else..

My friend an I both bought new 125's in 87 , I got the CR he got the YZ man was he disappointed. But i had to replace the plug every day for six months, until I finally replaced the weak stator.

yup , that was definatley a weakness that i overlooked. had lots of friends with stator issues. never had a problem with mine however, guess i got lucky...

Never rode it by my brother did, the 1993 yz80. First 80 with upside down forks, disk brakes, and it was water cooled stock. It was also the first year that yamahas motors were really fast. Dunno if it "blew" the competition away hp wise, but handling, suspension and motor together, it seemed to

That 2003 KTM 250 had 53 HP. Amazing. Never rode one but heard you could only hang on for a lap at the most.

Had one of those 50cc Italjets, they were badass.

Joey Schlag raced one of those for a while,,,it hauled ass and won a few at sandhill in the mini class... i think his was an 80 though.
