Going to take the family to Salt Lake for the Supercross finale for there first Supercross experience. Any tips on the stadium? Is there certain side/section to get tickets on to avoid being in direct sunlight most of the time? Got a couple little ones.

Thanks for any input.

Best advice, go to any other round. SLC is a terrible representation of the sport. So boring, so lame. It’s vanilla yogurt.

Maybe, but it’s the finale and we have friends in the area. Just the families first experience I’ve been to Anaheim, Seattle and Phoenix before. Unfortunately Seattle is in February this year so probably a mudder.

SLC isn’t terrible and pretty family friendly. Does seem like you’re looking for any entertainment or night life so you’ll enjoy yourself. Can’t remember the side of the stadium that’s mostly out of the sun I’m sure someone will be of more help.

Greetings from Central Oregon. Curious why Salt Lake and not Seattle? The weather?

SLC is a great event. Not the best but certainly not the worst. Good hotels downtown with lots of bars and restaurants pretty nice downtown area, Park at your hotel and ride the train to the stadium it goes right there. Dress for crazy weather, could be nice one minute, snowing or thunderstorms the next. Anywhere in the stadium is a decent view. The pits are out on the city streets and stretch out about 1/2 mile

Buy west facing seats at your peril, the stadium doesn’t have any shady overhang sections like a ballpark. The west side of the stadium will have shade later in the day.

Parking sucks, food sucks, dirt sucks, and there aren’t many nightlife options so plan accordingly. 😂

Bring windbreakers and stuff them into a transparent backpack or tote of some sort along with some sunscreen, security will let that through. Metal detectors are setup at the entrances. The weather the last 3 years has been typical Utah Spring weather, Bright and sunny followed by Thunderstorms and rain for 30 minutes or so off & on which sometimes causes delays in the schedule.

You can take TRAX Red Line from downtown to the stadium for free. Tons of scooters around before and after the race as well. If you drive, park south of the cemetery on 4th S to avoid the bulk of traffic leaving the U of U campus parking lots.

I choose to sit in either the West seasts which are East facing, or the North / South sections, because you're going to have your face in the sun all of practice & the heat races. The food at the stadium is pretty basic, nothing special.

Downtown is alright, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. Lots of good resturants around, everything pretty much is walking / scootering distance that you'd enjoy. The further you get away from Salt lake, the more you get the "mormon culture" -

Exactly, and we have some friends in the SLC area too. Hopefully next year they won’t put Seattle in February, and even if is hopefully not on Valentine’s Day. Happy Wife happy life.

My favorite seats are near the top of the stadium on the West side (facing east)...that way you are under the press box/suits so when it rains (or snows) and it seems to always do that, you have some cover.  And on the West side you are out of the sun all day (when its sunny...which it ALSO always seems to be)...

I don't care about being right on the track (down low) anyway, as its harder to see the entire track...and near the top isn't a bad seat at all.

I'd be looking for tickets near the top of sections W10-W14 when I go.

If you are getting a hotel...stay downtown...take Trax (the Red Line...there is also Blue and Green...take a blue or green train south to the courthouse stop, and then get on a redline train heading to the University Medical Center) it's free and it will drop you right off at the stadium.

FreeFareZone Map 4x5 1

My biggest complaint is parking...there really isn't any...so its a LOOOOONG walk from almost anywhere you park, so walking from the hotel to the train is the best bet.

I love downtown SLC...with the exception of a few streets, its really clean and feels safe...I'm not a partier, so I don't care about the lack of nightlife, and some of my favorite restaurants are there (I'm not much of a foodie, so my standards might be lower than others...)

How is SLC still on the schedule even in 2026!? Worst venue, layout and dirt. The championships typically have already been wrapped up and most of the guys are either hurt or bail on the round to get ready for outdoors.

sit on the west and or north side of the stadium to avoid looking into the sun.  Be prepared for weird weather. seems like it rains, snows, lightnings etc almost every year.

Because they pay for it. Utah Sports Commission is one of the major Supercross series sponsors.

It is also a great venue, by far not the worst.  The weather is variable, but that can shake up the results and we need more of that IMO.  Look at the racing we have had in SLC.  The stadium is easily accessible other than parking.  Great views of the mountains, pits are close, and plenty of great things to do in surrounding areas.

As someone that lives in Utah I couldn’t agree more. SLC is a dump and full of extremely hateful people unless you subscribe to their religious beliefs. There are so many homeless and tweakers everywhere it’s legit worse than Oakland. The food sucks, the nightlife sucks. Truly the worst SX round by far imho

not wrong about there being quite a lot of homeless but they leave you alone for the most part.  totally wrong about the religion thing though.  that might have been true in the 90's and early 2000's but not anymore.

I agree with Soggy.  In my short 3 years in Utah I've experienced zero issues with the religious types.  Compared to downtown Cleveland ,  the homeless are far fewer as well.  I've gone to two SX races in SLC.  Had a grsat time each time

If it wasn’t still true, I wouldn’t be in lawsuits right now trying to open up a 160 acre multi track facility. I do not hate them as some of them are very kind, but generally speaking they have been some of the most hateful people I’ve ever met. It is sad

Yeah totally, don’t listen to people that have lived there their whole lives.

SLC is a shithole now, got so bad we moved to California. And for what it’s worth, my senior parents moved as well, 70 and 80 years in Utah and never going back.
Not to get political, but Utah is being destroyed, it’s very sad.

Has absolutely nothing to do with what you originally said. Sounds like you have an axe to grind with your local govt, has nothing to do with the residents of SLC.

I feel like that's kind of the benefit of Utah is there isn't really much to do as far as artificial entertainment and it's more you have to go out and be in nature to be entertained "go ride your motorcycle" type of thing. And I like that. Not too bad inside of downtown SLC as far as I'm concerned, late though there's some sketchy sh*t tho to be honest

I went to SX in '24 (couldn't make it in '25) and the energy was AWESOME it was RJ and Kitchen tied for the title and the energy was super crazy I would highly recommend 🤘🇺🇸

I'm not talking about SLC politics, cost of living, religion or whatever. I'm not moving there. We're talking about going there to watch a race and in my opinion it's as not a bad race to go to. I've been to races in Seattle, Oakland, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego, Denver, Dallas and Houston.  There are worse cities and venues.

Being non LDS and from California it 100% is religious hate toward my family. It’s southern Utah also which is honestly even more hateful than SLC. The neighborhood I originally moved into everyone was incredibly nice and welcoming at first. After a week or so they invited us to their ward and we very politely declined and said we’re going to a Christian church in town and ever since then non of the neighbors have said a single word to us. And I’ve lived here now for 8-9 years…. I have never been more judged and ridiculed in my entire life by any other religious group. It’s truly very sad the amount of hate they have

Agreed.  I moved here 11 years ago and have nothing but kindness from everyone, especially those in the church.  I have been welcomed into the MTB community and there has never been an issue with me not being part of the church.  Paroworx, sounds like you should move.

Edit let’s keep this on the rails.

Come to the race it’s great!

Tons of outdoor stuff to do then too.

I have not witnessed any of that in St. George and I spend a ton of time here (I am in STG right now).  The FLDS population is not in STG, but close. I would argue they are subject to much more judgement and rejection at this time.

Went off track a bit but I'm sticking to my original assessment of Rice Stadium specifically. Of course you all had a good time there it's a damn SX race, but it's absolutely one of the worst venues overall.

Parking - almost non existent.

Dirt - rock hard, dry, and dusty.

Food/drinks - I'll admit... The Pie and Rio Grand Cafe are excellent, but they are  the only  options in the area of the stadium. And good luck trying to get in on race day. At least they serve beer now at the stadium.

Transit - TRAX is horrible, definitely no tweakers or homeless people, very family friendly. Also, good luck with that after the 450 main.

lol yeah that’s not happening, seems like you’re part of the problem. I moved here to open the best motocross track in Utah and I’m not stopping. Sounds like you won’t be riding with us lol IMG 3650.png?VersionId=qzRfwM e35AgGbdSPo72JMIMG 1584 6
