Petroleum Filter Oil on No Toil brand Filter

I have decided to switch from No Toil to Bel Ray for filter oil as I am tired of the mess that No Toil causes (no matter how long I let the filter dry or squeeeze out excess oil, oil makes a huge mess in the air box).

I have a couple No Toil brand filters and cannot find any information at all on whether or not it’s safe to use a traditional filter oil on these filters. Will it just crumble apart? Will the glue at the seams dissolve? Has anyone out there tried running traditional oil on these? Thanks in advance.

Going the other direction used to be a problem because the alcohol based No-Toil filter oil would soften the adhesive used on some other branded filters like UNI-Filter.
UNI changed their glue... Maybe around ten years ago?

I have been using Bel-Ray filter oil for a long time without any issues on any of the filter brands.
They used to offer the Bel-Ray by the gallon, but the past few years I have only been able to find one liter bottles.

Thanks for the reply. I soaked one of my No Toil filters in Bel Ray and am letting it sit for a week before trying to ride with it. My guess is the oil won’t ruin the filter and I’ll be good to go. I’ll report back after a ride in it along with cleaning it with some mineral spirits.

I’ve been using the BelRay for 40+ years. The gallons were awesome.  I think those were dropped when the buyout by Calumet happened.  PU had a crazy clearance price on the gallons and I stocked up.

Any news on the filter, Mgarro? I'd be willing to bet that the filters will be fine, but the oils themselves may not mix very well. Be sure to thoroughly clean the NoToil stuff out of the filter using their cleaner, then I'd also re-wash them in mild solvent and completely dry them before re-oiling with the Bel-Ray.

Good points Falcon.

I have ridden with 3 of my No Toil filters using Bel Ray without any problems. I have not cleaned any of them yet. I will report back once I’ve cleaned them in mineral spirits to see how they hold up.

Update

My no toil filters have been through a few cycles of bel ray oil and washing with odorless mineral spirits. Filters seem to be holding up just fine.
