2024-current yz250f top end hrs

I was going to throw a top end in my 24 this winter since there won’t be any riding for awhile, it’s got 16hrs vet a rider, clean filter every ride oil every 3-4 hrs. Does this seem like overkill to do at that hrs. I put a cam chain in my 2023 at 20hrs and everything still looked perfect and I kno the 24 has a beefier chain.

Do you hammer the gears and clutch? Unless you plan on dramatically increasing the hours next year (and don't want to touch it until next winter), I'd just leave it alone.  16 hours isn't much for a Vet rider, on a top end.

I’m not super hard on bikes but I do ride it pretty hard. I’m going to toss a clutch in it and see how that looks after 16hrs

youve got a long way to go. at 16 hours you are throwing your money down the toilet. 60-70 hours is a different conversation but depending on your riding habits, ive seen these bikes go 100 hours without even needing a valve adjustment

16 hours is still fresh to me.   I wouldn’t touch it until at least 50 hours……at least

I have a 2022 YZ250F with about 67 hours and am only now debating on doing a top end. I did the cam chain around 50 hours, and it measured identical to the brand new one I was installing. But it was for peace of mind. Valve lash is spot on, and leak down test is good. I have 9 other dirt bikes, so if it was my only bike, I would do the top end without hesitation. In your case, at 16 hours, no chance I'm doing a top end, lol.

I’m at 75 hours on my 2025 YZ450.  It’s winter.  I’m still not doing it until 100

If you TRULY didnt stretch a stock 2022 timing chain, i wouldnt consider doing that top end for another 30 hours.

Well, I measured the old chain next to the new chain the best I could. Was there some stretch I wasn't able to measure, possibly. But it looked so perfect, I couldn't bring myself to toss it (I save everything because, you know, "I might need it someday", LOL). When I first bought the bike, I was riding very slowly and only focusing on technique. It's only been the last 20 hours or so that I have increased speed and riding at a local A/B 40+ pace.
